Free shuttle service to & from Pak Chong!

The lodge provides free pick up from Pak Chong. One of their drivers may be already there waiting for you once u get off the coach. Look out for them, they should be wearing T-shirt bearing the lodge name. If nobody's there, call them at 044 365 178. A public phone is just metres away from the bus company's shop.

Rooms range from 1350baht to over 2000baht. I chose the cheapest and was pleased with the room.

Simple breakfast is included. Free internet access!

The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Unique Quality: The lodge organises trekking, camping, adventure, local market and winery tour!

Write and tell them your schedule. They do NOT need your credit card number to make a reservation. : )

The food served at the lodge is ok but may be priced above average. There are other shops & food stores just further up the road.

There is a 7-11 convenience store next to the lodge in a petrol station.

Guided hikes

by kyoub about Khao Yai Garden Lodge

Transportation was furnished from our Bangkok hotel in an air-conditioned minibus to the edge of Khao Yai National Park. Quiet and comfortable en-suite double rooms, at the Garden Lodge. Varieties of local flora and fauna and a tropical garden, where you can see over 200 different speciies of botanical and some rare hybrid orchids. There are always birds and butterflies flying through the garden. They have organised tours that take you to different areas of the park everyday. Most last most of the day. The guides are very knowledgable and personable.
The restaurant serves very good meals.

Truck Ride

by kyoub

From Khao Yai garden Lodge we would all pile into this truck to get to the park.
It was to bad a ride just made me feel like I should be going to a work camp or something like that.

Khao Yai National Park

by Globtrotter

Thailand's oldest National Park has one of the largest monsoon forests in mainland Asia and is considered to be one of the best National Park in the world. We hiked with a guide in the forest and savannah and saw some beautiful waterfalls in amazing surroundings.

Some of the animals we saw: hornbills, barking deers, wild pigs, macaques, snakes and green scorpions. In addition, when hiking we heard a tiger (around 100m from us).

Warning:
Millions of leeches garanteed if you want to hike in the semi-evergreen forest after it has rained. They do not carry any diseases so you'll be ok as long as you remember to take long pants and hiking shoes. Socks, preventing those bloodsuckers to feed on you will be given to you by your guide. I recommend taking lots of mosquito repellent and a pocket knife (those little pests don't come off your shoes/pants by themselves!).

How to get there and where to stay:
We took the train from Bankgok to Ayuthaya (3rd class, 11B), then to Pak Chong (2nd class, 90B). We stayed in the famous Khao Yai Garden Lodge, 7 kn out of town on the way to Khao Yai. It is a fairly nice place, run by Germans with clean bungalows (1000B/night).

Facilities include a pool and a restaurant (average food, very poor service). The Lodge offers good (but fairly pricy) full-day tours to the park (1200 B/person) as well as free rides to and from the train/bus station. If you don't arrive late at night (as we did), look around for better value accomodations along the road to the Park.

Picture coming soon.
