Needs refreshing
been there in oct. 2007, the hotel need some remodeling in every sense, it is within walking distance of the complex and at the other end of the main road that also has another huge shoping mall! the Staff is very friendly and helpful even with the language barrier they are doing there best to be accomodating and the yellow bird discotheque is great with a lot of student enjoying the place, hopefully the discotheque is located behind the hotel in an annexe so that does not disturb the hotel guest too much, the pool is ok nothing fancy and even the other farang (older chaps with wife and familly) where very friendly. overall not too bad for the price.

The Charoen - Nice Old Hotel
The Charoen Hotel should not be confused with the new Charoensri Grand Royal Hotel. Before the latter was built, the Charoen Hotel was the nicest hotel in Udon. It has now gotten a little older but is still a nice place to stay. The rate was 660 baht plus optional breakfast buffet for another 100 baht. Breakfast was quite good and worth the extra cost.
The room was comfortable and the bathroom adequate. The staff were friendly and helpful. They were also very accommodating about a late checkout so we could freshen up after visiting Ban Chiang in the morning. The only bad thing was a loud hum during the night from the back of the hotel (or from the convention center which is right behind the hotel). It may have been from an air conditioner that needed to be fixed. It was the kind of background noise that you get used to and ultimately ignore.
Unique Quality: The pool area is shared with the Mayfair Hotel and is quite nice.

Surprisingly modern
The facilities her are very modern and comfortable. There are 250 rooms with individual A/C thermostat control,direct dial telephone, sattelitte tv ,refrigerator ,tea & coffee, hot & cold shower & bath, a lovely spacious restaurant , pool.
