Chang Mai
Thinking of bringing my family to Chiang Mai early December. Had been following Thai news online and seemed that flooding has affected tourism not only in Bangkok but also Chiang Mai. How is the flood situation there?
I don't know what is the situation at the moment sicne we've left Chiang Mai about 6 days ago. But then there wasn't any problem in Chinag Mai itself. I hope you do get more up-to-date info though
Currently the river level in the city of Chiang Mai is fine, and the rainy season should be over +/- the end of October.
December average rainfall is 1.52cm, or .60inches.

I enjoyed the cultural shopping of Saturday and Sunday Market and the Night Bazaar, but whenever I need to buy quality clothings with the convenience of airconditioning and finding almost everything I need --- the Central Airport Plaza is the best place.
A mere 10 minutes walking distance from our thai massage school (Shivagakomarpaj) , so I go there at times during lunch break cuz they have a good foodcouort with so many choices of meals at reasonable cost.
The plaza houses also a Robinsons, cinema complex, amusement center, and several shops - clothings, bakeshops, perfumes, toiletries, pharmacies,, acccessories, electronics, photo shops, etc...etc...etc... on its 4 floors.
It's the biggest shopping mall in Chiang Mai, unless there's someone out there who would prove otherwise. clothing, shoes, toiletries, etc..
Chiang Mai is actually very interesting for its surrounding, mountains and the nature around, so if you don't mind do drive on your own you can rent a car.
If you do not wish to drive yourself it is also possible to higher a driver.
This is a local breakfast place without English Name. Locals come here for porridge and Chinese dim-sum in the morning. I was the only tourist here. It's actually a food court serving food from different indicudual stalls. I had a chicken porridge with egg, shrimp dumplings (ha-gaw) and ice coffee, total 50 Bhat. DELICIOUS and CHEAP! The coffee was too sweet though...
No trip to Chiang Mai would be complete without a trip to the village of Bo Sang to buy some umbrellas or paper. Expect to spend about an hour checking out the workshops and shopping. All the paper products are interesting and cheap. Most importantly they are light, so they make great gifts cause they are easy to get home. There is no bargaining here, only set prices.
