Chiangmai Thai House and Tour operator

by NGCH2

Anyone stay in ChiangmaiThai House before ? Is this a good and convenient place to stay ?

Also can anyone recommend a good and reliable tour operator ?

I am bring my parents to Chiang Mai and would like them to feel comfortable

RE: Chiangmai Thai House and Tour operator

I have stayed for three nights at Chiang Mai Thai House, this July. It is confortable and well located, although some songteos find it difficult to get there (ask the staff to write some indication in thai on the card). The swimming pool is not big, but refreshing after a long sightseeing day and rooms are not very big, but newly and quite smartly decorated. Private bathroom, a/a... The only detail you must bear in mind as a possible problem is that THERE IS NO ELEVATOR, so, ask for a room on the first floor if your parents are not fond of climbing up several flights of steps. No problem with luggage, ask the hotel staff if they can take it up or down for you and give them a tip.
If you have any other question...

Uhm... ten minutes, perhaps. But we always take the red songteos, we were six people and cost 100 bahts. You are supposed to pay about 10-15 bahts per person.

Hi Take your parents on the river cruise, they will enjoy it, your hotel reception will arrange pick up. You can hire a taxi cheaply and they will drive you around the city to the various tourist spots, they even take you up to the Hill Tribes, Elephant walk etc etc. Bargain the price, go in airconditioned comfort. See my CM page.

Travel Tips for Chiang Mai

The men having a puff

by herzog63

The men in most of the villages that I visited smoked their tobacco in these huge pipes. It seemed a bit cumbersome but pretty interesting as they would get together and always carry that pipe with them when they were going for a smoke. I am a non-smoker so I didnt' give it a try.
Sorry about the quality of the is taken inside a hut without a flash on a very slow setting.

Night Market and Bazaar

by tim07

The night market & bazaar is situated on Chang Khlan Road & is open daily between sunrise & midnight. Both sides of the road are lined with shops & pavement stalls selling handicrafts, souvenirs as well as silk & jewellery. Many of the stalls sell a range of designer goods, both genuine & fake.

The main night bazaar is a two storey mezzanine arcade, shops here sell antiques, crafts & clothing. A walk round the arcade gives you a bit of relief from the crowded pavements.

There are many places here to eat & drink. I enjoyed the Kalare Centre, with its indoor & outdoor seated area. There are many different food stalls for you to try. As you eat you are entertained by performances of Thai music & dance.

Thai/Western food and a mix of music ...

by Tusitala about The Riva

On a nice corner block, The Riva is a very stylish restaurant ... all white and silver shiny with funky mod decore, ie picture frames on the ceiling and outrageous wallpaper! ... open on two sides so you can watch all the action on the street and moat outside.

Run by a fun Thai lady owner, it serves western and Thai although one friend told me it's not the sort of place you'd go to eat Thai. So that's what we did, and it was really good Thai food.

150 baht got me three or four dishes, enough to fill me. Wine 100 baht a glass. Not bad.

They have live music every night, the night I went was a really groovy blues duo who played very listenable unobtrusive music.

Suitable for couples or even a large group. Fried fish fillets, dressed in probably basil and other Thai veggies.

When you like woodsculpture, you could spend one day in the district of Hang Dong, in the famous village of Baan Tawai. Here everyone is living from wood sculptures, furniture, antique statues. Just walk around along all the shops, every one has his own speciality.
Don't stay only around the shops, but walk around in the small alleys, where you can meet the real sculptors, who are working normally in the open air.
When you like woodscultures of Bhoudha of other antique or new statues, the only problem is; how to get this in your bags?
But there are many small offices of international transportation companies, like DHL and many others, who can take care of sending these to your home.
PS. When you return on a motobike, don't take again the Chiangmai hod road, but take right when leaving Baan Tawai, direction Ping river and follow the west riverside back to Ch.M. nice trip.
