Cosy Boutique Hotel in the Old City

    by

We booked our room direct from the hotel via its website, and took advantage of their low-season promotion package. Our executive room was huge and comfortable, and the package came with daily breakfast, free wifi, free 2-way airport transfers. On top of that, the hotel also gave us a voucher for a complimentary afternoon tea for 2 when we checked-in. We paid about 2,900 baht for our room per night (inclusive of taxes).

The grounds were well kept and full of lush greenery, and we saw squirrels and birds and insects.

The location of the hotel within the old city was very convenient - we could walk to the night bazaar and many other major sights. The hotel also offers a daily shuttle service (one-way) to the night bazaar - just register your room number with the reception. For our laundry needs, there were lots of cheap laundry shops on the same street - only 30 baht for 1 kg (wash and dry)! Dada Kafe and 2 great 2nd-hand bookshops were also within walking distance.

Unique Quality: Great Location, Outstanding Service

Chiang Mai Floating Restaurant

by Melanie_Putra

Hi Guys!
I read that the Chiang Mai Floating Restaurant is good (Ruen Phae). There are 2 branches. Which branch is nearer to the city (in km/minutes)? Or else, nearer to either Tesco Lotus or Carrefour? If we go we will have to take a tuk tuk or taxi there. Will there be a problem to get transport back from the restaurant? What is their operating hours like? Any day that they are close?

Re: Chiang Mai Floating Restaurant

by Somikan

I'd recommend Ruen Phae2. It's in San Phi Sue area and about 8 kilometers from the city. Tesco Lotus and Carrefour are on the way to the restaurant. The restaurant opens from 10am - 11pm, 7 days a week. Ruen Phae1 is also a great place, about 5 kilometers from the city, might be easier for you to get there (you stay at Le Meridien? I read the other post..) if your Song Taew follow this route: Le Meridien->Nawarat bridge->(keep going straight)San Kham Phaeng intersection->keep going for about 1 kilometers there will be a big sign on your left hand and you can follow a sign to get to the restaurant.

Travel Tips for Chiang Mai

Volunteer

by SumTingWong

Volunteer work is helpful and rewarding. Please, be more than just a tourist and do some volunteer work. Chiang Mai Province is just the place. Many trekking companies offer volunteer opportunities while on treks. Spend an extra day in a minority village laying pipes or teaching at the school. It all helps the people and their lives, especially in these minority villages. I helped lay down pipes and build a water tank, as well as being volunteer English/Thai teacher.

Wat U Mong

by slasty

Way U Mong is located about ten minutes out of the main party of Chiang Mai but alot people miss going to this temple. The temple is located in the jungle and you immediatley notice the change in temperature. The temple is very unique and has a number of tunnels underground leading to small bhudda shrines. It is really interesting. There is also a large Chedi in the grounds which are spread out and nice to walk around. Worth visiting and taking the time to walk around and find different parts to the temple. Also has a small lake area as well.

Another Famous Pub by the River Ping

by DarkRay about The Good View Bar & Restaurant

The Good View Bar & Restaurant, together with The Riverside Bar & Restaurant, are two of the most famous night spots in downtown Chiang Mai. Situated beside River Ping, both spots offer their patrons a nice unobstructed view of the river while serenading them with live music.

Both venues are popular, with The Riverside having a slight edge possibly due to its slightly more central location. Regardless, do turn up early because by 7.30pm, they are usually already fully packed, regardless of whether is it peak travelling season or not. Smart Casual

Art Gallery and Restaurant by the River

by Phalaenopsis03 about The Gallery

Situated along the Ping River, The Gallery Restaurant and Bar is a dining pleasure! Built in 1892 by the grandfather of the current owner, the Chinese style front building currently houses the art gallery while the rear structure built of teak-wood in Northern style is used as the riverside restaurant. Interestingly, former First Lady, Hillary Clinton dined here once. Tiliapia in steamed curry was the absolute best! I had a cold that day and felt guilty that I couldn't fully enjoy my meal, but from whatever remaining taste buds I had, I could recognize the deliciousness of this dish. Additionally, the pork on the sugar cane and prawn appetizers were a treat.

wonders of Thai traditional Spirituality

Spiritually active, historically authentic, and quite scenic. Access via a long staircase or for a small additional fee via tram. Includes spectacular scenic overlook of Chiang Mai city and surrounding countryside.
