A wonderful retreat out of Chiang Mai City
We stayed here for 3 nights, before and after our 3 day/2 nights Chiang Dao trekking/hilltribe village overnight stays. It was a great place to recuperate and nurse our terribly sore limbs after the rather demanding trek! We walked to the Chiang Dao caves, hanged around our charming little hut, slept a lot, had 2-hours Thai massage and compress therapy, admired the beautiful starry night sky while waiting for our mouthwatering dinners and desserts, enjoyed great company of like-minded travellers!
Unique Quality: Very clean, warm staff, excellent food and service, great views of the mountains, surrounded by beautiful nature!
Opinion of Price: less expensive than average

Paradise in Chiang Dao
If you want to experience paradise... Yes, go Chiang Dao. Just sit, relax and enjoy the mountain view (Doi Lup) which is right in front of your door step. Paradise is not complete with excellent food. In fact, the best in my entire trip. You can spend 10 days there and yet aren't to taste all food from Chiang Dao Nest' menu. Just imagine....
Unique Quality: Quiet, peace, .... Just relax....

North Thailand Mountain Paradise
We got chatting to some International School teachers in Chiang Mai, who somewhat reluctantly recommended Chiang Dao Nest. We eventually found out that it is for many Chiang Mai resident's their "escape" of choice, and in many ways they would like to keep it secret. My girlfriend and I had a fantastic time, it really is somewhere unexpected, and very special. The owners and staff were very helpful and welcoming. We went on a trek with them too, which was a very special experience. The food is absolutely fantastic, don't plan on losing weight!
Unique Quality: Wicha, the Thai lady owner is a demon chef, who it turns out is professionally trained in Europe. With a mostly Western menu the food we had compared favourably to the splash-out meals we had in Bangkok at a fraction of the price, awesome. The bungalows are simple but extremely clean and comfortable. The trekking was excellent, through villages which obviously didn't see many tourists. The setting and design of the place is quite stunning, the pictures on the website don't do it justice. They have loads of tours / thai massage etc. arranged very efficiently. But we enjoyed a lot of sitting around reading, and drinking.

We travelled for almost 3 hours before we reached Chiang Dao Cave. Admission fee is 5 Baht per person. Spelunking is not that hard as the inside of the cave is already well-lighted. You can find many religious statues and sacred Buddha images inside the Cave.
After our trek, we had a very good meal at Chiang Dao's Nest (nest@chiangdao.com)
Temples
by JustinJansen
Wat Tham Pha Plong is at the end of the road that goes past the caves, Malee's and Chiang Dao Nest. It is half way up the side of the mountain in a small cave surrounded by forest, with over 500 steps to the top. It has some great views, and due to it's location is completely peaceful. It is possible to do meditation here. Some of the monks speak very good English and can arrange for you to spend the night at the temple. Don't expect too much sleep though, as they wake up at 3.00am for teaching. As well as being a very beautiful place the temple has importance as the last teaching place of a highly revered and respected monk. Looang Boo Sim Buddhacaro spent over ten years teaching Buddhism at Wat Tham Pha Plong.

WE are planning on a visit from Chaing Mai to Chiang Dao Nest, it looks great on the web but has anyone had experiences with it. WE are considering this instead of a visit to Mae Hong Son area. Also accomodation in Chiang Mai, we are thinking of Galare Guest House, has anyone stayed here. Thanks.

Chiang Dao Nest is highly recommended. Lovely comfortable rooms, absolutely fantastic food, and a stunning location. It had everything that we were dreaming about for our time in Northern Thailand.
