Best Hotel Lobby Downtown!

If large, beautiful and elegant hotel lobby is your thing, then you really cannot go wrong with staying at Chiang Mai Plaza Hotel, which probably boast one of the most gorgeous lobby downtown as of May 2005, courtesy of very recently completed retrofitting works.

Hotel wise, this is your typical tourist class 4-star hotel with 450 rooms, catered mainly to package tourists. The hotel is well known in Chiang Mai and so, you should not have any problems communicating the location of the hotel to tour agencies, tuk tuk drivers, or any other people in Chiang Mai.

The location of the hotel itself is quite excellent and is only a short 5 minutes walk away from the famous (read: touristy) Night Bazaar. Not being in the centre of the market activity, it can offer its guest more piece and quiet than the other tourist class hotels within the Night Bazaar, such as Royal Princess Hotel, or Suriwongse Hotel.

Around the hotel, there are a few good restaurants, including the more-expensive-than-average Whole Earth Restaurant, which is practically a landmark in town. Should you clamour for night action, the Ping River is rather close by as well, where the better bars are located.

Breakfast was excellent and consist of a wide variety of items ranging from ABF essentials such as bacon, toasts and eggs, to continental breakfast items like corn flakes and pancakes to Thai delights, including chicken grue and boiled rice. Just avoid the fried rice and noodles at all cost as they are positively disgusting :-P

The staff are okay, but because they are always busy due to the large number of guests checking in and out, their smiles seemed kind of "forced".

For reference, I stayed in a twin room at the cost of about US$32 per room per night.

Unique Quality: The very very nice lobby!

Good and cheap in Chiang Mai

Not very impressive from the outside (well, there is a big poster of Thailands King right over half the front), the entrance hall makes it even. -Very impressive with all the ornamentation (some of them more indian looking than thai).

We booked it, because we had a day before and one after the tour we made in Chiang Mai and the hotel was also the one we would stay on the tour. So we would not need to change hotels and could alos leave some of our luggage here when we travelled.

We were positive surprised.

Unique Quality: The rooms are clean.
The double bed is that big that 4 adult people could sleep in it easily (in any direction :-).
The staff is friendly and helpfull.
Morning buffet was very big (everything you want and more).

Also the hotel is quite good and centrally located, only 2 minutes walk from the night market, but out of the traffic.

There are also some good restaurants close by, if you do not want to use the one of the hotel.

Chiang Mai's Best..In my mind

Having just returned from Chiang Mai, this hotel really exceeded all my expectations. The location is within walking distance of the old city, the night markets, and the river pier.
The hotel lobby is huge, and we found our rooms to be really big with comfortable beds, bath and shower...What more do you want. Breakfasts were good, catering to the majority of nationalities who were at the hotel, but the food section of the noght market is about 200 meters from the hotel, and we ate there every evening.

When I return to Chiang Mai (as this will definitly not be my last visit) I will look no further than this hotel

Unique Quality: Close to most tourist attractions, with agreat view of the mountains from our bedroom

Good hotel

This hotel location is great, has a beautiful lobby and the deluxe rooms are very nice, quite large, and you can have city view; the floor and the room smelt good despite we stayed in a smoking floor which we realized when they checked us in, but this was not a problem because the floor smelt like a non smoking floor. I can’t say the same about the superior or standard rooms which are very basic and need a renovation, we could see them because at the beginning they assign us in one of this, but I was surprised because of this awful room, despite we had paid for deluxe room, then I asked if it was a deluxe room and they said there was a mistake and changed us the room.
The service at the hotel is not good at all and the staff was not friendly or helpful. Specially the phone operator and at the pool side, please never as for a margarita
The breakfast was very good, has a large variety and a very nice terrace where you can take your breakfast but the dinner buffet was not that good.

Chiangmai plaza

Banana Bread at the buffet breakfast is excellent. The pool is nice, but it gets really busy. The hotel lobby almost every day had weddings going through it with fresh flowers going up the stairs.

Changmai Plaza

We had a fantastic stay at the Plaza. Unfortunately I am not able to say anything about the cost as it was included in our tour of the East.

Best kept secret in Asia

Impeccable rooms, well decorated. Very attentive staff. They even had a guy to push the elevator buttons for us. VERY reasonable rate that included a large and delicious breakfast buffet. Highly recommended.

Unique Quality: You just have to see the decor and the service for yourself. The lobby and first floor corridors were decorated with exquisite and ornate displays that had a definite Thai flavor and made us feel we were truly on a relaxing vacation.

Hotel - Chiang Mai

This lovely hotel is centrally located, a few minutes walk to the Night Market. The rooms are very comfortable and clean.
You can set the A/C in your room according to your liking, which I always find very useful.
The hotel has a very impressive lobby. During the evening, there is live classical Thai music performed.
The breakfast buffet is outstanding - a good mixture of East and West.
I would recommend this hotel anytime.

Unique Quality: Swimming pool
Spa
Money Change

Old classic

The Chaing Mai Plaza is a nice old place. Although there were construction works in progress (arent there always in Thailand?), we enjoyed our stay in the hotel. We had 5 nights, so we got to know the place fairly well. Service is great and friendly and the rooms were comfortable if not ageing a little. I'd stay there again.

Unique Quality: Enjoy the great restaurant just down the road toward the market (New Earth I think) which sells vegetarian Thai food (but you can get meat dishes as well). Although a little more than most places, it was wonderful food and a delightful setting.
