 | Golden Cupids Hotel: Simply an Amazing Time

I was met by courtesy transportation laid on by the hotel at Chiang Mai airport and on arrival at the hotel was personally greeted by the hotel owners, Peter (a gent from England) and his Thai wife Peppe who, as usual were all smiles. I was shown to my 2nd floor suite (No. 6) which was a very large light, airy room with all the necessary facilities. One queen and one king size bed, TV (3 English/American movie channels & BBC World News), stocked mini bar/fridge, seating area, wardrobe, tea/coffee making facilities, black out drapes, a most efficient air conditioner and a large fully tiled, double sinked bathroom with a tub/shower, bidet and loo. Peppe went out of her way (as usual) to create the most delicious Thai dishes that I have ever tasted. Her staff (mostly relatives or good friends) worked long hours preparing exotic meals which all of the guests thoroughly enjoyed and agreed that it was better to eat in rather than venture out to a restaurant. The city of Chiang Mai is about a 15 minute drive away and Peppe often drives guests into town as a group for the night market or Kantoke dinner shows and it is fascinating to listen to her amazing life stories especially her childhood in Laos. Taxis are very cheap compared to UK prices costing about 300 Baht one way into the city. Because Golden Cupids Hotel is located in the country away from town some city cab drivers do not know where it is, but the hotel will gladly organise a cab for you and then you can arrange for the driver to either pick you up at a certain time or ask for his mobile number and call him when you are ready. Out in the back garden is the refreshing swimming pool is a welcome relief from the Thai heat and there is a thatched massage area where you can have a really vigorous Thai massage and herbal steam room.
The staff at Golden Cupids were so friendly and instantly welcomed me into their family group and we have all became great friends. Because this hotel is small (only 11 rooms), the guests all interact with each other and all team up for day trips which Peppe kindly organises. You end up going home after making new friendships with people from places like the USA, Australia, UK, Germany, Malaysia etc. I highly recommend Golden Cupids Hotel and I am so besotted with the hotel that I plan on returning for my third holiday there in September 2007.
