Countryside living in Chiang Mai

Our "resort" was about a 30 minute drive outside of the center of Chiang Mai and was located along a paved country road and set back in a small valley. We were pretty far from the action in Chiang Mai but if you're looking for a really quiet place to get away from the city then this may be the place for you. There was one outdoor restaurant at the resort but to be honest the food was nothing to write home about. The pool and gardens were beautiful and there was a large expanse of perfectly manicured lawn for our son to run across. The bungalows vary in size but are all built in the traditional Lana Thai style, all in darkly stained wood. The bungalows were set along a small river that ran the course of their property. Some of the bungalows had a view of the garden, the green field of grass, or the pool. We had the pool and garden view & were only a few easy steps from being able to dive right in the inviting pool.

Unique Quality: The landscaping is very nice, the grounds are quiet, the air is fresh, and the bungalows are beautiful to gaze at from your recliner at the poolside. Mountains and green hills surround the resort which add to that out of the city feel. The bungalows are either one room with bathroom or, like ours, two bedrooms with a common living room and kitchen, and two bathrooms. All are built in the traditional Lanna style with teak wood walls, polished floors, and elevated on tall stilts. We paid about $60 usd for our two bedroom bungalow in August of 2004. The only problem with this place is the service.....it hardly exists so you are pretty much on your own. Bring your own food in if possible, bring your own beer, and try to arrange transportation because theirs is expensive.
