Acommodation with in your budget
by allelli
It is a three storey building arranged in a courtyard fashion with swimming pool but I haven’t try there pool because according to one guest the pool have so much Chlorine. . The rooms are clean, in a native atmosphere with bamboo furniture but We didn't really have any window in the room, the room is big but the toilet have no partition in the shower area so every time you take your shower it is messing all over the bath room Well it is not best but it is not the worst accommodation in chiang mai.
Unique Quality: It is a walking distance from famous night bazaar, they offer cooking classes and tours. if you stay there, they will pick you at the airport or train station. they will answer immediately upon booking online.

has everything you need
by Anita_Porec
Lai Thai Guesthouse is located on the southeast corner of the Chiang Mai city centre (canal).
The service is about 6/10 ...the staff rarely smiles or concerns themselves with you unless you have a problem - BUT the guesthouse has everything you need.
The location is great - walking distance to the Baazar + sunday Market.
FREE Wireless Internet. Outside Pool. Moped rental (200.00 bht per day).
Restaurant and sitting area on grounds - serving b/l/d.
Free pick up from the airport.
Very good deal.
Unique Quality: We paid 650.00 Baht for a poolview room with free wi-fi ($20.00 USD)
...with A/C and fan.
Directions: Mid way from Chian May centre and Night Baazar

Cheap & cheerful
by aserafica
Didn't really have any expectation from this hotel. I just picked up their brochure when we were in Chiang Rai then when we arrived in Chiang Mai just got a taxi and told the driver to drive us to Lai-Thai..This hotel is not listed in most internet searches. The rooms need serious updating, some rooms windows look out to inside hallways. the restaurant/ cafe has average food but this seems very popular with a lot of westerners on a budget. for a 1 night stay - its ok for 600 baht a night. There's a swimming pool right in the entrance, by the cafe which is nice after doing the hill tribe treks.
Unique Quality: 5 minutes to night Market, swimming pool, cafe/restaurant/bar, tour booking service, shuttle to airport. Note: The brochure is better looking than the actual hotel. i credit the hotel for at least giving it a bit of a local Thai feel in the architecture and furnishings. This is a budget hotel.
Directions: near corner Sridonchai Road

Great cheap hotel
by Jasoninlondon
Nice, comfortable hotel on the edge of the old city wall.
Unique Quality: The hotel includes a pool with a nice sitting area and bar and restaurant. The rooms are decorated in old teak and are very comfortable and air conditioned.
Hotel offers free pickup service if you call ahead.

Authentic Guesthouse
by Pat&ZoAnn
We really wanted to stay in a place that was more authentically Thai, so we went to an Internet Cafe, did a search on Thai architecture. When we found something we liked, we asked the girl that worked there if there were any guesthouses in the area that looked like it. She suggested the Lai Thai Guesthouse.
Unique Quality: The room walls were clad with bamboo mats, the floors were wood, the room decorations were all quite authentic. In all, it was what we were looking for.
Directions: At the south-east corner of the Old City

In Chiang Mai I can reccommend...
by xaver
In Chiang Mai I can reccommend Lai Thai guest house, it's a nice place with swimming pool. It's central and costs about 10 - 12 $ per night.Just a note, according to the latest sviss news this accomodation is not good and clean enough for sviss usual standards.

10/12 $ per night

Which guest house to stay?
by alchocoholic
Hi all. Will be taking a trip to chiang mai with my mum and sis in january and this being our first time there, we have absolutely no idea where to stay. We're looking for a guest house that is clean, quiet, affordable (around 1000-1500 baht or less for 3 ppl a night), equipped with hot showers and a/c and within walking distance to the night bazaar as well as other attractions. We have these few in mind after reading some reviews online:
1) Lai Thai Guest house
2) Sri Pat
3) CM Blue House
4) Na Inn
5) All in 1 Guest House
Could anyone help us in making a decision or perhaps recommend someplace better? Thanks in advance!

we stayed at the Lai Thai in Jan 2006 and enjoyed our time here, as it was a friendly hotel and close enough to walk to the bizzare. Rooms were basic but clean and had air con.

We just came back from Chiang Mai, we stay at CM Blue Guesthouse for 4 nights.
They provide very clean room and it is a cosy place to stay. The owner and the staff they are very friendly to assist you. The location is great, a lot of nice food available. The guesthouse is very near to Sunday Walking Street, must not missed....!!. To me the night bazaar is nothing much, it is 10 to 15 minutes walk from the guest house. Just step out of the guesthouse, songthews are easy available and can bring you where you want to go, please be prepare to negotiate before you take the transport.
cheers...........!!
