I'm not sure of the exact timing of the cherry blossom, but there are lots of cherry trees planted in Mae Salong in Chiang Rai province, and I was told that it gets crowded during the blossom time.

January - February is the usual season for cherry blossom so you should get some. I was there one March and there were still trees in bloom. May depend on the weather - rains and the blossom is not as good. There are numerous tours to see the blossom or you can get localo buses to the areas where there are many trees planted.

Travel Tips for Chiang Mai

Vachiratharn Waterfall is a 70 meter high waterfall with a high cliff on the opposite side, and is located within Doi Inthanon National Park amongst nice rainforest.

The parking lot is at the base of the falls and it is an easy short walk to see the beauty of the falls.

The water when I visited, was thundering over the falls, and there was plenty of mist and spray coming off it!
There is a trail to the left of the falls which will lead you to the crest of the falls.
Be careful climbing AS IT IS WET & SLIPPERY.
You will get drops on your camera lens too. You can get photos from the top and bottom as well.
Walk further along from the bottom, for more nice rapids and rushing water.

The Vachiratharn Waterfall is a good place to take a break during your trip to the summit of Doi Inthanon.
There is a nice restaurant which has the basic Thai rice and noodle dishes.
Toilets are here as well.

At the Waterfall, there are many caves, including Borijinda Cave, a large cave with stalactite and stalagmite, located in the east of the National Park.

Really nice waterfalls.

LOCATION......The Vachiratharn Waterfall located about 7km from the summit of Doi Inthanon.
Take Route 108 out of Chiang Mai, then between the towns of Khuang Pao and Chom Thong, turn right into Route 1009 which goes all the way to Vachiratharn Waterfall.

Making Friends and Romance Thai Style Part VI

Thais also love to give and receive gifts. These gifts should be personal and something you or they truly need. If you want to give a gift shoes and handbags are their favorites.
Don’t go out and purchase expensive gifts. Tell her you need to go shopping for something for yourself and take her with you. After you make your purchase (shirt etc.) than ask her if she would like a pair of shoes or handbag then walk her to a store. Again you can purchase a nice pair of shoes for her for a couple hundred Thai baht, most nice shoes are under 300 baht and handbags under 400 Thai baht. Thai girls love shoes and handbags in a lot of different colors so don’t spend a lot of money on one item. She will need more in different colors in the future and a nice gift they all love.

Another gift men love to give which is not very important to Thai women except on special occasions are flowers. Many Thai girls feel this is not practical and a waste of money. If you do buy flowers make sure it is the right color. The wrong color can have a negative meaning. The two best colors are white and red. White means you miss or missed her, which is great to give when you haven’t seen her in a while. Red is telling her you love her and is good for Valentines Day, birthday or New Years. Yellow is in mourning so don’t give her those as yellow is for funerals.

The Engagement

Now you are both in Love and you are ready for ask for her hand in marriage. Take her to a nice restaurant for a Romantic dinner and just ask her, that’s all there is to it. Don’t purchase a ring or anything. If she says yes congratulations. Don’t worry about her parents and what they night say or want, as they already know all about you. They know their daughter loves you and she has already consulted with them and they gave their approval. The next step is to take her to a gold shop and purchase a nice necklace for her.

Anusarn Market

by yipsufen about Anusarn Market

I'm not sure whether this place is called Anusarn Market but the stall vendors are located near to this area in the day time. Local food products like cashew nuts, fried silk worms, dried longan, pork cracklings, fish sauce, Tom Yam paste, etc. You can buy some local food produce for your friends & family.

Fresh & high grade of longan should be round, lighter colour and tastes sweet naturally. Tom Yam paste selling on the market could be spicier than the one that you have tasted during your guided tour. The soup prepared for tour group is usually less spicy to suit the average tastebuds. The bizarre food of silk worm is salty & crunchy and serves as a good snack while drinking. Cashew nuts: THB70 to THB100 for a small pack
Silk worms: THB90 to THB150 for a small pack
Dried longan: THB120 to THB200 depends on grade

Food Galore !!!

by cmsong about Street Hawkers & Anusarn Market

Street hawkers / coffee shops - Whatever looked interesting, we went in to try. Nice & tasty noodles. If you do put in some chilli flake powder, try a little first or else you'd end up tearing from the spiceness.

Anusarn Market - Many many things to try here - seafood, local. Street hawkers / coffee shops - soup noodles

Anusarn Market - Pad Thai (fried noodles), pork satae

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

by Yenina

A major pilgrimage destination in Chiang Mai. The temple lies roughly 15 kilometres from the city, and can be reached by road. From the car park across the road from the temple there are two ways of approaching this holy shrine: on foot, if you are fit enough to climb the 306 steps up an almost vertical Naga (serpent) staircase, or by the small cable car.
