  • Excellent Well Located Hotel

This place is great- the best location in the center of Chiang Mai across from Thapae Gate. It's pretty old but the rooms are clean. They have huge soft beds, hot showers, mini bar, cable tv, phone, and free wifi connection in room! The staff is very nice, which is becoming more and more of a rarity in the touristy areas of Thailand. There is a Starbucks across the street, as well as several excellent used book stores, a Boots pharmacy, and several small Thai restaurants and lively bars in the area. The night bazaar is a short tuk tuk ride away, and the Sunday Market is right next to the hotel. Definitely recommended. 750b/nt.

Chiang Mai and the Silk

Chiang Mai and the Silk
Thailand: Chiang Mai and the silk...

Tailors in Loi Khro Road (Close to the Night Bazar)...Very cheap the silk!...Chiang Mai is a very nice town...Touristic but not too least if you walk outside the night Bazar Area.

Famous for the Thai Silk (Like Chiang Rai) and Tek Wood.

Place to stay in Chiang Mai:

You can sleep(Centre Town) in: Royal Guest House:Close to Loi Khro Road. Not too bad. Double room with Bathroom and Towels 350/400 Bht per day. Montri Hotel:Nice Hotel: Double room 700 Bht per day. Amora Hotel:Very Nice Hotel:Double Room 1.700 Bht per day (Breakfast Included). Taxi and Tuk Tuk from Chiang Mai Airport around 80 Bht(1 way)...All Trekking tours that the "Thai guides" organize in Chiang Mai are...ridicoulos...No Trekking...just Mini Buses and of course you'll visit just what they want.....Villages where people is ready to sell you something....Or you go by yourself or, you take your personal guide and YOU decide where you want to go...INTERNET in Chiang Mai: 30/40 Bht per hour.

"Trekking and Elephant Tours"

You can find a lot of "guides" who organize many tours...They call them TREKKING tours but most of the time (90%) Real Trekking is just 20 minutes...the rest is by BUS....not so much adventure!...So, if you really like Trekking and a bit of Adventure, make sure you choosed the right ASK what they really do!

"Wild Villages"

North Thailand and around Chiang Mai....That area is really beautiful. You'll see many villages where people live like 100 years ago!

I like the area near the Thapae Gate. I used the Montri Hotel several times over the years. Close enough to walk to the Night Market. Short, easy walk to restaurants, travel agencies for tours, cooking schools, internet shops and even Seven Eleven type stores. Flea market at the Thapae Gate every few days. Other tourists have different areas they prefer.

Use this hotel link for reference.

(All rooms in this hotel have air, HW, private toilets/showers and cable TV.)

Up to you!

I came across this link a month or two ago for a place to stay in Chiang Mai.

Trigong Residence.

Tourists that stayed there seemed to be quite happy with the place.
