Need a days itinerary ....

by DubaiRes

After a wedding celebration, the plan is to take the guest party (max 40) for a day trip around Chiang Mai/outskirts. A river trip perhaps? Not really interested in seeing/riding elephants all day. Got to be varied and include something for everyone .. young and old. Any thoughts? Did you do something rather special whilst there?/ Thanks for input.

You could combine some of the following: City Temples (there are some really nice ones) Doi Suthep Mountain Temple (great views) Handicrafts (probably night market will do) Butterfly and orchid farm (interesting and different) Night Bazaar and a great meal somewhere..... I never didi a river trip so can't advise on that one.

you might consider of...
IN morning
time Enjoy the mae ping river cruise viewing the chiangmai city by boat.

In the afternoon
Visit to market buy ingrediens and back to cooking school get an introduce Thai ingredients and alternatives you can substitute back home, how to make savory curry pastes used in a multitude of dishes, touring Chiang Mai's fabulous fresh market, learning to carve vegetables and fruits into sensational attention-getting artworks. And have lunch with you own special menu! very fun!

Hi,

First, you need the transport... I suggest you contact a local travel company to make all the arrangements for you. There are many around town as well as your hotel travel desk who can help.

It's a day trip, so you'll need to have lunch/refreshments along the way? Again, you may need some pre-arrangements.

What I'm trying to say is that you should get some help from the travel company and leave the arrangements to them. Unless you're very familiar with Chiang Mai or Thailand it is not easy or advisable to shuttle around 40 people.

Places to suggest? Go up to Doi Suthep, visit the Royal Gardens there as well, maybe go to the Hmong hill-tribe village. On the way down you can stop at the Palaad Tawanron Restaurant for lunch.

Boat trip? Couple the boat trip with a visit to a farm and also a lunch at one of the river restaurants.

If you have time... go to the flower gardens, craft villages... hill resort...

there are a few options you can do other than being on elephant backs as you mentioned.

but a size of 40 persons, i would encourage you to seek ground handling tour operators...dont brave 40 persons on your own...highly possible frustrations in the horizon.

enjoy the north and congrats if the wedding celebration was of your own! ;-)

Travel Tips for Chiang Mai

Finally...The start of the trek! part 5

by herzog63

After the delayed start in the morning then the blow out of the tire and the side trip to the cave we have arrived at our starting point of the trek! It is a beautiful setting in the forest with cascading water falls going all the way up the mountain. After we got our backpacks out of the Sawng Tao and everyone got ready we started on our hike. Straight up!! Holy Mackeral this wasn't a stroll through the hills we climbed up for what seemed like a couple of hours but it probably was less. I was sweating so bad that I sweated all the way through my backpack and drank all of the water that I had brought with me. Luckily I had packed some Iodine to treat the water.....Yummy.... Iodized water sucks. It was the first time that I had ever tried it. But I used it so I wouldn't be stricken with giardia or some other form of water borne illness. Later in the trek I even tried flavoring the warm putrid iodized water with toothpaste! Guess what? It tastes worse!

Namdhari Sikh Temple

by Willettsworld

This Sikh temple is used by the Namdhari sect of Sikhism and is one of two Sikh Gurdwaras in Chiang Mai. It was only the second one I ever saw in Thailand after seeing my first one in Bangkok.

Tuk Tuk Tuk Tuk Tuk Tuk .......

by Anita_Porec

Tuk Tuk???

I've seen a T-Shirt saying:
"No, I don't want a f*cking tuk tuk, massage or suit. Thank You"

You will however, need a tuk tuk.
They will cost about 30-50 baht to get anywhere in Chiang Mai.

They are pretty cool and exotic but be prepared to swollow some fumes from te bus that just stopped infront of you.

Never forget to try there fried cream puff

by allelli about Fuenglash Restaurant

It is in the lower ground of the hotel, there is a live band while you are eating. The buffet food is great they served international dishes, for the price of 135 bath/person. next time I visit Chiang Mai I will eat this place again. I love there fried cream puff, the sushi is fresh, and you the noodle soap will cook in your front so you have a choice to put chili or not.

Rafting and Elephant Rides Oh My!

by william_navigator

Maetamann Rafting & Elephant Camp has packages or you can arrange individual activities. They have an elephant show, elephant rides and a bamboo raft ride down the river. Standard is a one hour elephant ride but we opted for a half hour instead and skipped the elephant show as it was raining and we had to go to our next stop.

Make sure you wear shoes that can get wet such as Tevas or sport sandals.
