    Cool place in great spot

    by

Had a great stay their for 2 nights!
Hotel is relatively small and staff very nice and helpful. Located just near the middle of the night bazzar - you can easily go back and forth from the hotel to the market.
    Prices are reasonbly fair.
    Breakfest was good.
Next to it on the street there is an older motel that goes by almost the same name - don't be confused - just go to the newer one.

Is Chiang Mai a good honeymoon spot?

by Marcusvpn

Hi everyone,

Has anyone gone to Chiang Mai for honeymoon? We only have time to go to Bangkok and one other destination, and we were thinking Chiang Mai.

If you have gone, could you share if it is a good place for honeymoon? Would we be better off choosing a beach destination such as Ko Chang instead?

Please let us know your thoughts! Thanks! Marcus & Jane

Hey, I guess it depends what the two of you are looking for. Chiang Mai is turning into a small Bangkok these days, busy, and I just read today in the paper that they issued a pollution warning for the sick and eldery. It is also crazy hot up here right now. It has some beautiful resorts that you can stay at, but there is no water (besides the river). If you are into trekking, visiting hill tribes villages and eleplant camps, it would be a good place. However, if you more into chillin on a beautiful beach, being able to swim and cool down whenever you want to, head to the south!! I have been to Ko Chang once, and it was great. Lots of nice places to stay and enjoy yourselves. Just a few thoughts from my end, but its all what you want. You could also fly to Ko Samui and then you have the chance to visit some more smaller islands that are close by. Have fun!

The readers of 'Travel & Leisure Magazine', voted Chiang Mai the '5th Best City'.

And that's NOT the '5th Best City in THAILAND', or the '5th Best City in ASIA', but the '5th Best City in the WORLD'.

It's a terrific town, but the 5th 'Best City in the WORLD', jeez, I wouldn't of voted it that high.

--------
It will soon be VERY HOT, and Chiang Mai will have TERRIBLE air quality until the beginning of the rainy season (late April).

honeymoon?

My personal opinon, this time of year, I think I'd pick a beach.

-------
footnote 1: In March and April, it's hotter in Chiang Mai than Bangkok.

footnote 2: The bad air quality in Chiang Mai, during March and April, is a result of a temperature inversion, much like occurs in L.A. during the summer months. However, unlike L.A., the pollutants here are primarily a result of agricultural burning.

You will have more to do in Chiang Mai. Besides city things to do, there are lots of tours to places like the "Long Neck Villages" and the "Golden Triangle" area.

Better choices of hotels and restaurants in Chiang Mai. More choices for transportation to get to there - bus, plane or trains are go there every day.

Chiang Mai has warm weather almost like the beaches, except for the sand!

I'm in CM right now & I would say NO WAY!!! The air is terrible, & it's stifling hot! I would highly recommend the southern tip of Phuket (not Phuket town) if you're interested you can email me @ deb200456@hotmail.com & I'll give you some more info on a great place (that's very reasonably priced) that few people know about. This is if you like beautiful scenery @ multiple gorgeous beaches, not too many people & great snorkeling! We go there every year now! Debbi

Travel Tips for Chiang Mai

Respect Buddha

by i-s-a

Thais have great respect for Buddha and as a visitor, you should exercise respect too.

A lot of Buddha statues today have been beheaded...a sad reality brought either by wars and by thieves. Some people make money by stealing and selling Buddha heads to antique and gold collectors.

Sunday market

by mejlmi

On sundays the tribes comes down to town and sell their craft. Cheap and a lot!
Streets are closed for cars so if you arrive on a sunday, be prepared to walk the last bit to you hotel if it´s located in this area.

Great deals and try a footmassage after hours of walking! In 2003 I paid 45 Baht for 30 minutes! Wonderful! Crafts, ceramic, jewellery, handmade paper and lots of other stuff!

How do you get out of the airport????

by traceyspacey

Trying to get out of the airport was a challenge. We had been told about the pre paid taxi for 100 B. We found the stand and a sign saying 120B, but nobody was there and no taxis. After considering walking as the idea of getting a metered taxi was not popular after our last time in Bangkok. We thought we would give the metered taxi a chance. We went to the stand (outside) It worked, it was the amount that we had been advised. We were dropped off where we asked and he smiled as he left. 50B paid at the stand and 60B to the old town

Aroon Rai Thai Restaurant

by slasty about Aroon Rai Restaurant

This Restaurant is simple in design with an open air sort of feel. But what it lacks in decore the food more then makes up for it. The Restaurant has a really relaxed welcoming feel and is a great place to sit back and watch the world go by. Definately the Curries. Whether is be Yellow, Green or Red they are delicious. I have tried them all and they are fantastic. Also has alot of local dishes. The food here is cheap and delicious.

VISIT THE TIGER KINGDOM AT MAE RIM

by DennyP

While in Chiang Mai this is something that I had heard of and wanted to see...after visiting the tiger Sanctuary near Kanchanaburi I just had to see this one..well I certainly wasn't dissapointed as there are numerous tigers here of all types and sizes..There is an entry fee and depending on what you want to do determines the cost...I was happy to just sit with the tigers and have some photos taken although I did lie down with one..
