Chiang Mai Itinerary
by ImaZ
Being our virgin trip to Chiang Mai, we were surprised on the organized road infrastructure and clean city. People are beautiful, warm and friendly. Doi Ithanon is definitely worth a trip as beautiful view from the tip of Savannah. Elephant ride is definitely something not to be missed. Breathtaking view from Doi Ithanon and beautiful flowers at the King and Queen's pagoda garden.
Our guide Pong, speaks relatively good English and has a wicked sense of humour! Gave good tips and we would have probably blew our budget if not because of him (guidepong@yahoo.co.th)
Chilly at night
by M.E.R.V
It does get a little chilly at night on some months of the year with temperatures dipping to a low 15 degrees celcius! A shawl or light jacket would be a good idea. With the mountains surrounding the city, the day can be quite cool as well.

The longe in our hotel, had a live band of this one guy who sings all these great songs. There is a happy hour where drinks are buy one get one free and they bring both of them to you at the same time so we ended up with like 7 of us having 14 drinks at one time, it was funny to see. You could also dance if you wanted to. Don't think there is one, I wore shorts.
Simple name and good tasty food
by thedouglas about Family Restaurant
This little cafe in Loi Kroh Road, near our guesthouse, became our favourite place to visit for a fruitshake! They were served in little ceramic pots, and were just beautiful - and so refreshing - not to mention cheap. The food was also excellent, and it was obviously a multi-generational family business - all contributing to the day to day running. Fruit shakes!

The Elephant farm tour was well worth doing. The travel agent in the hotel lobby organized the car and driver and an English speaking tour guide for us for surprizingly little money. What a pleasure they were! The elephant farm was interesting and educational. The farms are largely responsible for maintaining the elephants in Thailand. The animals are very expensive to keep and are all but completely replaced in the work force with machines. If the elephant farm tourism dies out, I'm afraid the elephant will die with it as a symbol of Thailand. Never think you or the elephant handler has control of the animal though. If you are riding an elephant thru a jungle path and the animal decides to step off the path to munch a morsel from a nearby tree, you're jolly well gonna sit there 'til he gets through munching. A great experience though. And we bought all the touristy pictures from them. They were inexpensive and great mementos of our trip.
