HMONG TRIBAL MARKETS
by balhannah
STOP 4 on DOI INTHANON NATIONAL PARK TOUR
Just up the road from the ranger station is a Hmong market, which sells produce from the Royal Project and Hmong villages around Mae Chaem.
Actual Hmong hill tribe people live here.
We stopped to have a look at their wares (mainly produce), and to see them dressed in their colourfully embroidered clothing.
After buying some sort of glazed Cherries, Kiwi Fruit, and other fruits which tasted quite good, they were happy to be photographed.
No pressure here either to buy!
Even if you are not on a tour, I would stop here, as it was interesting to see what they grow and sell, and also, they were dressed in a few different Hmong outfits, all very colourful. They were pleasant people, and a smile goes a long way!

Chiang Mai's best A Go Go Bar
by Tusitala about Foxy Lady
Chiang Mai is slightly different than the beachside resorts ... while there are pockets of girlie bars along Loy Kroh there is not much of an A GO GO scene here. In fact really only 3: Foxy Lady, Spotlight and Star Xix (sic).
Foxy Lady for most is the best in terms of decor and ladies. Fairly small, with bar seats around the stage, a second tier of tables and seats behind, and some lounging areas against the back wall.
As Go Go bars go, it's good clean fun: no nudity, lots of laughs, and totally forgettable music. If you want to go as a couple, no problem, women welcome too.
Drinks: beers around 100-125 baht, spirits about 125 and up.
Bar fine: 500. Whatever.
"Kantoke Dinner" in Chiang Mai
by sunnywong
At this event, visitors are seated on the floor around a circular tray with Northen dishes on it and eat while watching traditional Thai and Northen dances and hilltribe culture shows. Kantoke Dinner provide a good way to get to know both the Northen food and culture at the.same time.
Elephant Performance
by solopes
It's show business... but it's good. The performance at the training center (I don't know if it exists more than one) shows hard work and professionalism with the elephants. The show pleases adults and children. The final ride, though short and following a very beaten path, demonstrates well how securely the elephants deal with mud, even in steep slopes and narrow paths, and uses well the river to compose the landscape of the jungle.
