Chinese Martyr's Memorial Museum - Mae Salong
by mim95
It has a large collection of photos and the history of how the KMT soldiers left Yunnan province, China, into Burma and eventually settled in Thailand. They helped the Thai government to fight against communist insurgents and most of their offsprings had Thai citizenship. Interesting enough, there was little about the the village's role in the opium trade in the golden triangle. There is an admission of 30 B.
From Shin Sane GH, the museum is passed General Duan's tomb. Keep walking on the main road, passing the last building in town. After a downhill bend to the left, you'll see a huge archway - the main entrance of the museum. It is about 10-15 minute walk from General Duan's tomb.

Chiangrai - VT Meeting
by chiabh
"December 4, 2005"
We were in Chiangrai (CEI) on December 3 and 4... Prior arrangements were made with Eric to take us round CEI and the Golden Triangle... On the last day of our visit, we meet up again for a VT dinner at Eric's house... Som (Eric's lovely wife) prepared a typical Thai dinner for us... It was more like a friend's gathering than a VT dinner although we met Eric and his family for the first time...
Attendees:
Chia - Chiabh
Eric - homestaytravel
Nim - dora_Heta
Meenoi - Meenoi
Diana (Chia's guest)
Som (Eric's wife)
Selyen (Eric's daughter)
After dinner, we talked about travels, life in CEI and about places to visit in the area for our next visit... It was indeed nice to have met fellow VTer Eric and his family... and we look forward to going to CEI again... After dinner, we have to bid farewell to the Eric family and home as Eric took us to the airport for our night flight back to Bangkok...
