North Thailand tour -help
by zeevfl2
we will be glad to get review, recommendation or advice about a guided professional tour in English, 1 day tour in Golden triangle area, depart from Chiangrai during 11.2006, made by reliable travel agency. First night staying in Chiangrai hotel
At the second day we want to depart from Chiangrai to Chiangmai, interested to visit some of the hill tribes(long neck).
Another alternative- in the second morning, separate tour or transfer from Chiangrai to Chiangmai
Thanks in advance.

This is abit late but for anyone else we used a tour company in Chaing Rai called chaing rai private tours . we paid no more than what the other tour companys where charging and received the best service. Its a small family business and they made our stay unforgetable. Just tell them what you want and its never a problem. The only thing was they are hard to get hold of , in Thailand ring their mobile 0871722830 they said they where getting a website but I,m not sure. Hope you enjoy Chaing Rai as much as we did.
Travel Tips for Chiang Rai
Thai visa run from Chiang Rai
by seagypsy
It's faster, cheaper, and easier just to go by bus to Mae Sai and cross over into Myanmar/Burma at Tachilek. You'll get a day pass for U$5 (or maybe it's U$10) and you can turn around again back into Thailand but you'll only get 15 days when re-entering Thailand by land. No need for a Myanmar visa and far cheaper than crossing into Laos at Chiang Khong to Huay Xai since the Lao visa is usually around U$35. If memory serves, the bus takes about an hour to Mae Sai.
Mekong River
by solopes
The most significant moment in Chiang Rai was a boat ride along the Mekong river.
Passing between Laos and Burma, closed countries at that time, provided a feeling of excitement, enhanced by the Laotian kids swimming in the muddy and dangerous waters to approach the boat, asking for something (coins, I presume).
Feeling China in background (announced by several boats passing and anchored) the place is really a dramatic joint of nations, cultures and policies, in a luxurious landscape.
Owners of the Mountains - Hmong Tribes
by easterntrekker
There are 9 different hill tribes in Thailand , numbering only 1% in total of the Thai population . The Thai people seem to treat them with a gentle respect and in stead of tribes they refer to them as Chao Khao ....owners of the mountains)
We visited the Hmong tribe people on our visit to the co-op center. It would have been much better and a more real experience to visit them in the remote hill villages of the north but energy and time did not permit.
Non of the less we enjoyed our visit and found the people we visited to be friendly and pleased to see us.
Their are actual two sectors of this same tribe , the White Hmong women wear baggy black pants and the Blue Hmong women wear peated knee length skirts.
We saw them many times in the markets in Chaing Mai and Chaing Rai
Questions and Answers
Q: Green bus scheduel from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai "Hi all, I recently checked the Green Bus website. Unfortunately, it wasn't in English. Does anyone know (roughly) the schedule..."
A: "It is fiffteen years since I took those buses, but still my answer is hopefully more useful than "bagusboy"'s. I don't recall them to go quite as often as every 30..."
