how much is the correct fare by tuk tuk or taxi to the centre of Changrai from bus station where the guest houses are so I dont get ripped off, and can you recomend a cheap guest house around 250 baht?
Last time I was in Chiang Mai I paid 40-60 baht to go everywhere
easier to get charged the right price if you are with a thai girl I guess

Chiang Rai bus station?
The bus station is virtually in the centre of the city. You may not need to take a tuk-tuk at all. For cheap accommodation head to the river point where there are quite a few cheap places to stay at even less than the amount you stated.
Chaing Rai town is not very big, no tuk-tuk trip should cost more than 30 baht.

Tried the Yunnanese noodles soup at the small restaurant not too far from Shin Sane GH. I had a bowl of beef noodles soup. It is the thick type of noodles in a spicy broth, served with some pickled spicy vegetables, that isn't as hot as the Korean kimchi. A very tasty lunch for 25B.
I don't remember if there is a name for this restaurant. It is a really small place with a few tables.
This temple is the original place where the Emerald Buddha (now housed in the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok) was found in 1354. Now the temple
houses a jade Buddha image which was made to commemorate the 90th birthday of the late Princess Mother.

A: "It is fiffteen years since I took those buses, but still my answer is hopefully more useful than "bagusboy"'s. I don't recall them to go quite as often as every 30..."
