The North Hotel: Chang Rai City Center Hotel

by mmnz

Just found out this place, its called the North Hotel, its quite clean and good, but its expensive as compared to the city. A very small hotel with few rooms. The rooms are small but well ventilated with Air Con and Wifi. Wifi is real good here. Ill be uploading some pics of the hotel and if there is any question do write to me. I paid 750 Bath/night.

The Elephant Nature park, nr Chiang Mai: Love Ellies, go to The Elephant Nature Park

by lukulu21

The elephant nature park is a unique elephant rehabilitation/rest home near Chiang Mai. You will find their office on Moon Muang, Chiang Mai. Elephants have been rescued from various places and are now living in peace and lovingly cared for by staff and volunteers. you can stay at the park and interact with the elephants. They are relatively free to wander (mahouts always nearby) and form friendships, only being chained at night. Accomodation is rustic but the experience is something you will always remember and cherish. Good food and education about the plight of Elephants in Thailand/Burma. The park was established by a Thai woman called Lek a few years ago and is born out of her love for these intelligent gentle animals. Go there, this is not the usual Thailand elephant trek that seeks only to exploit Elephants and make money from them. It is an attempt to provide abused elephants with love!

Chiang Mai Thailand guest houses

by bulldogtwo

One of the better sites that I found is www.chiangmai1.com
They have some great information on Chiang Mai as well as a great listing of most if not all of the guest houses in Chiang Mai with a price list. Only problem is that it does not list web sites for these guest houses, but you can google some of them to see if they even have a web site, many will not. I would suggest contacting the chiangmai1 website contact and see if they can help with reservations if you need them.
5 weeks,! have fun!
Good Luck

Lamphun - The Art of Thai Traditional Massage Scho: Thai Art of Massage School - the best

by nomimusic

I want to start by saying this endorsement was not solicited, but I would like to share this experience that I stumbled upon, and it was an experience of a lifetime. While traveling in Lamphun Thailand, a friend suggested that I visit the Massage School that I am about to describe. I was so impressed with the facility, and the people, that I took a course in Foot Reflexology, and am now certified to practice. Although I have only used this with my family and friends, I have been so impressed with the results. Anyone going to Chiang Mai should take the time to visit Lamphun, about 26 km to the south. The School, or Spa teaches Thai massage, foot reflexology, or if you want to just go and enjoy the herbal steam bath, massages, and foot treatments, it is well worth the time, and is cheaper than a normal stay in the Holiday Inn in the USA. For Aprroximately 2000 baht a day I lived in a luxurious home, was fed 2 delicious meals, and took the class to be certified by very professional staff. They also have a Doctor in accupunture who will treat any assortment of conditions. I was so impressed. The owners lived in Ca for years, and speak English. They will arrange pickup at the airport in Chiang Mai, and also have a van to take you to different sites of interest after your completely relaxing massages and treatments. They have a homepage at www.huensamunprai.com where you can find out more details, and contact them. It would be a perfect get away from the city, especially for a group, and they give group rates. I left there feeling refreshed, and was treated like a king during my whole stay. This place is a winner, and could be a great base for relaxation, study, and travel, yet far enough from Chiang Mai to really feel what Thailand is like, and close enough to Chiang Mai for excursions there. I plan on going back.

Although on a back street, it is like the Garden of Eden, with eligant plants, wonderful air conditioned home accomodations, herbal steam baths, massage, foot reflexology, and they will take you on excursions to the numerous sites in the area, as well as pick you up at Chiang Mai Airport.

Chiangmai Empress: Pay a little more for so much better

by suthamchin

At that time all hotel accommodation is fully book ,then we spend 2 nights in Empress and 1 night in Lanna Palace that is 10 US cheaper than Empress (fully book can not stay 3 nights)
Empress have a good breakfast , room is large , service is nice & friendly. it's like a haven and earth , the lanna palace is good but the empress is much more beter.

Room is large and so comfortable.

Seven Suns Hotel: Cheap sweet Hotel

by Southerner

Laid back, accomodating and friendly staff with a great location and a bar and restaurant that is ready to please and serve you at almost anytime.

Like a 1960s Beach Motel and the price can't be beat!

PJ's Place Guest House: Nice place owned by two nice men

by Southerner

Perfect service and crisp white sheets with a location that is right in the middle of the college/Orchid Hotel/Amari Rincome area. Pick up service at the airport and tailored service makes you feel like a king.

Sweet quiet cul-de-sac, easy walk to everything yet so secluded.

Thapai Spa Camping: Multiple Spas and Homegrown Food

by AlbuqRay

This is one of my favorite places in Thailand. The beautiful Thapai Spa Camping resort is located on the Pai River about a 10 minute drive east of the village of Pai. It is not a campground at all. Comfortable rooms were 600 baht (~$15) with fan in 2001 but have gone up to 1400 baht now. They have an adjacent spa and are surrounded by beautiful gardens. There is an open air dining room. The entrees feature vegetables from their own garden. The food is quite good but not as inexpensive as the rooms.

You can relax in any of several clean spas heated by nearby mineral hot springs. Each group of rooms has its own spa but all spas are open to everyone. There is also a large central swimming pool. It is a short walk to Thom's elephant ride (600 baht for 1.5 hours).
