Khun Yuam Resort: Magnificient view in Khun Yuam

the name is "Khun Yuam Resort" and you won't find it in town. Khun Yuam is a small town and it is not interesting to stay in the town itself, just ask for directions to the "Khun Yuam resort"(everybody knows). The road is going up a bit and there is an old church (sometimes active but I
have not seen people when i went there) nearby the resort. It is family-style,quiet place, but what a magnificient view!! Just good for couples who like trekking (mountain, rivers) and still feel like at home when they come back in the evening...
Price is good (only 400-700 baht) and you get a lot of space only for you. We enjoyed resting on the balcony overlooking the valley and the staff just make you feel home.Good for a change from all hotels and resorts we have stayed before.

Unique Quality: spacious room
good facilities
Cable TV
very quiet
Nice food,home-made
and magnificient view

Homestay: Accommodation on a Trek

While on a Trek you will get to sleep in several homes in different villages you visit. The homes are simple, and the people are welcoming. Your trekking company may or may not provide a sleeping bag, but these are a must. The company will (should) provide mosquito nets for you. Note that there is no such thing as a bed in a hulltribe village, you WILL sleep on the flor (bamboo) of the hut, and normally very close to the animals. I remember countless mornings waking up with a rooster on my foot and a cat on my chest, so be prepared. You will be awoken at around 4:30 am by the roosters. Believe me, you will hate roosters by the end of your trek! This is an excellent experience that you will always remember!

Ban Kaew Resort: Best guesthouse in Mae Hong Son

This guesthouse/resort is the best cheap accommodation in Mae Hong Son. It is only a seven or so minute walk from the city center, located at the top of a small hill. It is owned and run by the Sunflower Cafe. They have great thai fruit and freshly baked bread. The rooms are cheap and good. All rooms are clean teak bungalows next to eachother on the hill.

Room rates: (Includes breakfast also)
Fan: 200-700 Baht
A/C: 800-1000 Baht

each room has a cable TV and hot water wall shower and sitting (as opposed to squatting) toilet.

Unique Quality: Great Views, quiet at night, the best and cheapest in Mae Hong Son.

Ban Kaew Resort: BUDGET LUXURY in Mae Hong Son

This guest house type resort, located on a small mountan top, a ten minute walk from the center of Mae Hong Son city, probides great accomodation, a relaxed atmosphere and large rooms in private bungalow teak wood homes. You can get single double and tripple rooms with hot water, air con, and cable TV all for under 500 Baht (average room 350 Baht, I think). Highly reccomended! The ownter, La, is also the owner of a great Tour and Trekking company in Mae Hong Son: Sunflower Cafe and Tours.

Unique Quality: Great views, quiet, spacious, good freshly made thai bread and fruit for breakfast, hot water wall shower, cable color TV, clean, and large beds (however, with hard matresses; bring a sleeping bag for cushining).

Mountain Inn - posh and boring

Posh and totally out of place for Mae Hong Son. Sterile is the best word that describes it, I guess. And popuar with tour groups.

Unique Quality: 1000 baht for a double in low season - far too much (for the record this choice was imposed on me by the person I travelled with). Nice garden however, with the Asian version of the tacky dawrves statues.
