Affordable Mae Sai lodging with view of Myanmar
Most backpacker or budget traveller rooms are located on the Sailom Joy Rd. left of the border crossing bridge, parallel to the river.
This hotel is probably the best of the lot on the same road as the old King Kobra hotel. We stayed here, in a clean room with tv & bathroom, for under $10usd a night. From the 3rd floor you have a view right into Myanmar and the Sai River.
Unique Quality: Only a 2 minute walk to the Myanmar border crossing. Several backpacker style cafes line the same street. Nice views of the Sai river and Tachilek, Myanmar. If there is a backpacker street in Mae Sai this would be it (but don't expect a lot of backpackers because this town is still off the beaten path enough to avoid large, rowdy crowds like Khao San Road in Bangkok).

Questions and Answers
Q: Traveling to Mae Sai - what currency? "I will be traveling to Mae Sai this month end. Please suggest me the currency I can use here. Should I use Thai Bahts or... U$..."
A: "US$ is not used in Thailand. Very few places will accept it, and those that do charge a big exchange rate. Always use Thai baht."
