RE: from pai to chiang rai

The ways from Pai to Chiang Rai must pass Chiang Mai. Because Chiang Mai is located between Mae Hong Sorn province and Chiang Rai province.

You must go back to Chiang Mai then drive up to Chiang Rai.

Any question? or more informations, Please feel free to contact me : siamonline.thailand@gmail.com
or via phone : 08-6222-2550 (Miss Worakamol)

White Water Rubber Rafting

by SumTingWong

SaNookDee!! Good fun!! Rubber rafting is so much fun is Pai, you all must do it if in Pai. The best trip you can do is going down the Pai and Kohng river, starting in Pai and ending up near Mea Hong Son, near the Myanmese border. Pai rafting did a great job. The trip was 9 hours, but not boreing at any time. You stop for lunch in a small hilltribe village along the way. The scenery is really amazing. There are huge limestone mountains and green trees along the river, and some parts are surrounded by rice patties. There are a bunch or rapids along the way, a lot of fun! The rapids range from level 1 to 3, for the level 1 rapids you can get out of the boat and float on your back through them. There will be a guide on each boat to help, and you will have a life vest too. RUBBER RAFTING IS MUCH BETTER THAN BAMBOO RAFTING!!!!!!!! It is an excellent must do trip!!

Sunset in Pai

by zazatann

I found this place where is about norhern area from the town to the Thai-Yunan cultural center. Just only 300 meters far from that center, you can see nice view of the river Pai and the mountains surrouded. Nice feeling to see sunset here.

Would be nice to be with someone. other wise, you'd be too lonely!!!!

"Intoduction"

I honestly don't know how to start. For those of you that have been to Pai you will know why. It is the most beautiful and enchanting place I have ever visited. The fact that it is a forgotton paradise also adds to it's charm.
I arrived in Pai expecting to spend 3 weeks or so there but his was continually extended until time ran out and I had to return home 8 months after I had arrived!
After being in London vitually all my life it was difficult, to say the least, to adjust to such a small and quiet place. There is so much beauty in this tiny "city" that no matter how long you spend there it's fascination remains. There is more than meets the eye in Pai. The obvious choice is trekking. There is so much choice when it comes to this. Many places in Pai offer trekking trips to tourists. From a one day trek to a 4 day trek, the choice is yours. You have the opportunity to stay with hilltribes, sleep in bamboo huts in the jungle, go rafting etc etc. There are over 120 guesthouses in Pai now so the choice is endless. I'll limit my resommendations to just two. Firstly is the beatifully set Pai Riverlodge set right on the bank of the River Pai. There are just 12 bungalows here so it is a close knit guesthouse. The staff are very friendly and are always on hand to offer their services. They offer an all day breakfast. Secondly there is Drifters further up the river. This guesthouse is unique in that it is rebuilt every year due to the flooding of the river. Set in a quiet location it is perfect for those who like a chilled out atmosphere.
There are many places to eat in Pai and I am going to recommend just 3. Firstly there is Forrstry '33 which is located just to the right of the bus station. This is an extremely popular choice for almost the entire town. It is Run by the Kaew, the wife if one of the Forrestry workers and her team. Kaew is a superb cook and offers Thai food alongside Ferang food (European). You will always bump into someone you have met before there and it is a great meeting place. A small warning though, it does get pretty busy in the evenings so get there early. The Tearoom opposite All About Coffee is a great place to chill out whilst enjoying the fantastic cooking of the owner Kritsana Chinayon (Joe). There are also a vast number of teas and shakes to choose from hence the name! Finally, the market in the evenings offers a cheap alternative to restaurants. This is no insult to the food though. Personally I think market food in Pai is outstanding. Open 'til about 2:30am it makes for the perfect after ours snack!
For drinking/evening fun I would like to suggest 3 places of interest. Firstly the hugely popular Be Bop Bar on the road leadin out of Pai. This used to be a small, cosy blues bar in the town centre. Since demand was rife they have moved to a larger premises on the outskirts of town. There is a daily band including the owner Chart that plays a mix of blues and sould classics. Every Friday and Saturday there is a reggae band and every so often a local musician plays covers. When in the country an Australian who goes by the name of Mojo plays blues with amazing talent and passion. A definite must see. Secondly there is a wicked little reggae bar called Monkey Magic (yes, named after the tv programme). The owner has a vast collection of reggae. There is something for everybody even if you thought you didn't like reggae. It is moving to it's new premises next door to Be Bop in November 2003. Finally there is a chilled out venue called Edible Jazz (formally Jazz Up) in town. The owner plays acoustic guitar with limitless talent (no kidding), emploing random techniques if guitar playing. You have to see it to believe it! They also serve a heavenly choice os desserts there. Well worth the visit.

"Christmas & New Year"

Just got back a couple of days ago from the beautiful land.
Nothing much has changed in Pai which is the beauty of it.
This time I only spent 3 weeks out there as I am continuing my degree in Brighton. It felt like I had never been away though. What a wonderful place!
Have just booked to go again at the end of March so am really excited about that!

"Songkran"

Just got back from Songkran in Thailand. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's basically Thai new year. I was there last year for it as well. It's so much fun. Basically it's a water festival so everyone throws water over everyone else. There is no way in this orld you're able to stay dry. It's pretty hectic and can be quite dangerous. The polic have been enforcing the donning of helmets on bikes this year and have introduced the breathaliser to Pai to cut down the drink driving rates. This is because every year at Songkran thousands of people die in Chiang Mai alone. The prime minister wanted to cut this death rate so has been much stricter about things.
Anyway, going back in just over 7 weeks so the boredom of being is this country won't last for too long!

"Arriving in Pai from Chaing Mai"

Got up at nine to have a shower and get ready, ready to rumble. Had breakfast and said bye bye to Lindsey and Rhiannon. Got taken by one of the family to the bus station and literally jumped onto the next bus to Pai at 10.30, which was already pulling away. WOW it was uncomfortable, Stuart had a good seat though. There were suicide lorry drivers trying to take us out on cliff edge roads. Eventually got to Pai and walked down the road until we got tired and went into the next guesthouse. It was called Blue guesthouse and had that Spanishy villa, mank style. 125b each for a very nice room though. Went for a wander and had a potato and chicken curry. Went onto internet and had a shot of homemade Thai whiskey for 6 baht. Wandered around even more saw some really cool little art shops and a cinema place but was a rip off. Sky got really dark that evening, went to a bridge, and was boring.
Had a rest in room then went out at 8.30 to a ‘free bbq’ that was indeed free. Little kebab thingies and a whole dried fish, which was nice, can't beat free food. Played a lot of cards with Stuart and I lost 8 times in a row. Played cards with an Austrian woman and her Thai bf, then again with a French couple – Sonya and Sebastian .They told us about some good references in Bangkok, a very useful couple all in all. Oh and I won the last round, HA! and so stuart finally told me how to do the card trick I had been shown on the trek - god it was obvious!
Came back to guesthouse but the gate was locked so we had to climb over it almost squerwering ourselves, and the police went past. Found out the next day that it wasn’t locked, just had been slid across!
