visa run

by stamoz

hello everyone,

i'll be in Pai next january and i wanna know if it's possible to do a 'visa run' to Mae Hong Son at the border with Burma. I issue thai visa for 60 days but in the airport the immigration only stamps for 30; since I heard some foreigners do this process to get another stamp for an extra 30 days that's why i wanna be sure this can be done if i try , thanks

Unless you apply for a 60-day visa outside of Thailand, you'll only get a 30-day stamp at the airport. You can do a visa run at Mae Sai in Chiang Rai province, or Mae Sot, south of Mae Hong Song. Either way is a long journey and the border is subject to close dependant on the relationship between Thailand and Burma.

I ran into some people who say that nowadays you'll only get a 15-day visa if you come overland into Thailand. This was during the Christmas season. So maybe someone has more up-to-date info

That is very true. If you are coming overland from any of the bordering countries, you'll get only 15 days. But if you are flying in from the bordering countries, you'll still get 30 days.

Travel Tips for Pai

general info

by harmlessphil

This town is very bibbly bobbly and full of alternative magic healing stuff. It therefore attracts that crowd. Coming out of the bus station the further east and south you go the quieter and less bibbly bobbly the town is.

it is however a nice place to hang out. Many very nice bungalows by the river. Left out of the bus station then lefy at the turning pass the wat (100 m max)

Chicken farm

by prikje

Thai people keep the chickens under a bamboo basket.
The chickens can eat everything that lies beneath them, the basket gives shadow allows air to pass.
Nice environmental friendly way to keep poultry.

by Kana-Jeab

"Coffee in Love"

Coffee in Love - a cute coffee shop in Pai village that most of tourist go there to take the pictures, including me. But, don't ask me about the test of coffee because I am not a coffee lover. :P

Well, not only the Coffee in Love shop where is cute in Pai village, but there are so many cute shops in Pai. You have to go there, and look around. I sure that you will like this place - cute, and peace.

If you would like to visit, I recomment to be during November - February. It is cold, but great! Love it!

"Mork-Fa Waterfall"

Don't know how to explain the beautiful of this waterfall. All I can say that I love it!

"Pang-ung"

I'm not sure what should to call this place, lake or dam? Whatever!

well, it takes about 3 hours from Pai village to get there. Yeah, Far, but WORTH! You will see fog above the water. There is nothing much there, but I like the weather there. So.....natural. ^_^

Pai

"High apple Pai in the sky...."

Pai is a small little town nestled in the hills of Northern Thailand. It's a complete 180 from the popular beaches and resorts in the south. Pai is probably the most laid back and relaxing place on Earth. Time doesn't exist here, only hammoks and elephants do. Lazy mornings turn into lazy afternoons which turn into nights of people simply gathering together, sharing food, music, and great stories. If you sign up for a trek in Chang Mai, there is a good chance that they will be taking to somewhere in this region, but if you're the independant kind of traveler, you will find that you can do most of it yourself on day trips using pai as a base, that is if you are actually strong enough to wake up from the constant daydream that is Pai.
