Transportation to Sukhothai

by Prachinburi

The overnight train from Bangkok arrives in Phitsanulok at 4:16 a.m. How difficult will it be to find transportation to Sukhothai at this hour of the morning? How far away is the bus station from the train station? Will we have to wait around for a long time?

Thanks!

Hi -

According to my Lonely Planet guide, there are buses from Phitsanulok to Sukhothai every half-hour or so (it doesn't have the time for the 1st one, sorry, but given their frequency the first one should be reasonably early); the journey takes an hour. The bus station in Phitsanulok is 2km out from the centre (the train station is in the middle of town) - the LP guide reckons that city bus No. 1 will take you there.

Hope this helps...

Travel Tips for Phitsanulok

Phitsanulok - Royal capital for just 25 years

by Willettsworld

Phitsanulok is an important transport hub in Northern Thailand, about halfway between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Many travellers will at least pass through Phitsanulok on way to and from the North. Whilst the city itself is not the most exciting or prettiest place in the world, it was a royal capital for 25 years during the Ayutthaya period. There are only a few sights to see in the city itself and I spent the night here after getting to the city by train from Lopburi. I then took a bus the short distance to the historic former capital of Sukhothai. If your times limited then don't bother visiting here.
