Beautiful, basic accomodation

Lotus Village is something between a hotel and a guesthouse. It is not big and luxurious, but I wouldnt say that it gives budget accomodation. In some aspects, it is a luxury to stay there, because rooms are located at beautiful teak houses and surrounded with plants and flowers everywhere. Good staff, the owners usually are at reception desk and the service is casual style, but helpful and kind. We stayed at a room with a basic, but clean, private bathroom and air conditioned. You are asked to leave your shoes outside the room. Breakfast offer is limited, although enough for us. It is located at New Sukhothai (12 kms. from Historical Park). Very nice restaurant just next door to Lotus Village. They didnt have Internet access on July 2006. They offer a transfer from/to Sukhothai airport (30 kms. from New Sukhothai). Bookings have to be made through e-mail.

Too expensive........and not friendly

We found the Lotus Village Guesthouse in Lonely Planet, and booked ahead from Chiang Mai. It was a nice enough guesthouse, but the beds were very hard and uncomfortable, and it was just much too expensive for the standard of accommodation - @ 900Bt. We had just had very new and modern accommodation for 1100Bt.

To add to the dissatisfaction, the breakfast was also very expensive, and the stingiest, smallest amount of breakfast we were given for our entire holiday.

The French owner did not acknowledge our arrival or presence at all - even when in the same room - although the staff were reasonably friendly.

Unique Quality: Nice setting, but a lot of mozzies

Sukhothai Local Thai Huts

A very pleasant 'Thai' village Style accommodation. You live in your lotus village hut surrounded by lotus and bougainvilla flowers. Basic, huts have own toilet and bath (thai style) no hot water but who needs it.

Unique Quality: Great thai village atmosphere, budget priced.Popular with individual travellers. Garden setting.

Bungalow accomodation

We stayed in a bungalow for 2 persons. There's minimal comfort, this means, just a bed and a bathroom. The matras is really hard, but I've been told that this is good for the back, right ;-)

The bungalows are built in teak, therefore you need to take off your shoes before going inside. Every bungalow has a small "veranda".

The setting is very attractive with lots of trees, lotus pond, ...

The owner is French, he's married to a Thai woman, who speaks very well French (and English) too.

All in all, good price-quality.

Q: How to get from Sukhothai to Ayuthaya? "Hi! Need to get to Ayuthaya from Sukhothai. If it possible to get there on bus, or the only way is the train from Phitsanulok?..."

A: "No idea of timings but there is a bus service between the two cities. Once there ask for directions to the bus station, or ask your hotel to check for you."
