A Quiet Little Place

The Tharaburi Resort looks like it has seen better days. The political problems in Bangkok has not helped either. Tourist are not coming in droves anymore to Thailand. Whereas many can still be spotted in Bangkok, Sukhothai is way too off the beaten track to be on the list of must visits for tourist.

That said, I still like the place. It is quiet, it is clean, it is well kept and the reception/front office staff, who i guess is in one way is family to the owners, bends backwards to please. Plus, the cafe out in the back serves delicious food.

My only grouse, if you could call it that; is the infratrsucture.

No internet ion the room.
Water pressure is a bit low for the jacuzzi...yes they have jacuzzi, in the room. It takes a while for the bath to fill up and the hot water does not come down hard.

Unique Quality: Free snacks and drinks in the mini bar - only the beer is chargeable.
Free use of bikes.

cute adorable little hotel

this place has great service (very attentive), great location (1 km to Sukhothai park), free bike rental, decent food, great/cute rooms (see the photos), well designed, family run (relaxed and friendly), I actually enjoyed this hotel more than I did the 4 seasons in Bangkok where I stayed for work after the weekend

Lovely hotel in Sukhotai

by superjelen about Tharaburi Resort

It was the accommodation we most like during the whole trip for sure. Situated quite close to the Historical Park, it’s really cute and comfortable, with a marvellous atmosphere and helpful service. Food is also great. Good value for money (probably the best one we were in). There are only about 12 bedrooms, so it’s really recommended to book in advance.

Delicious Local Fare

by ishi01 about The Tharaburi Resort Cafe

My complain about cafes in Sukhothai is that they bend backwards to please the western palate at the detriment of taste.

Having travelled around Thailand quite a bit and with great thai restaurants in KL (notably the seacuisine group) cafes in Sukhothai comes across to me as having sacrificed what they are i.e. thai- in order to sell.

So, I was quite pleased that the cafe at the Tharaburi Resort had stuck to their guns and served authentic thai food. A cafe called out by The Lonely Planet served a watered down Nampla with bird's eye chilli- now why would anyone do that?

I did notice that TomYumGoong did NOT make it to the cafe's menu though.

But their green curry was tasty and so was a number of other dishes such as cashew and chicken stir fry, the cat fish dish (this is a local favourite) and all other stir fry normally found in thai restaurants. Thai Green Curry.

Sometimes, due to the coconut milk, green curry tends to be a little bit too creamy which makes one sick of it after two spoons. This one was not too creamy.

Q: How to get from Sukhothai to Ayuthaya? "Hi! Need to get to Ayuthaya from Sukhothai. If it possible to get there on bus, or the only way is the train from Phitsanulok?..."

A: "No idea of timings but there is a bus service between the two cities. Once there ask for directions to the bus station, or ask your hotel to check for you."
