We stayed in this Fanari Resort in Khao Lak. (in the The courtyard side) The service was nice & friendly, the room was ok, air-condition was working which is important. It was nice & cozy with a nice terrace felt like if you are in a middle of the jungle village with all the birds around on the trees. The swimming pool was just 20 m away, breakfast served every morning which I never missed and as a whole stay it was very convenience place to stay.
We had a stay at Villa type with private little swimming pool and Jacuzzi. The room is excellent. The resort has great both huge swimming pools. All in all everythings is good! good location, close to beach and short walk to main street where there're many restaurants, shops etc The town and main street get lively in the evening. Something to be a little improve is the service, particulary people who work at restaurant at front beach and the breakfast need some more choices. After all I'm very satified staying at this resort, very beautiful surroundings, mountainview and seaview.
Great Swimming Pool and nice Italian Restaurant...
Lovely place in Khao Lak with friendly staff, laundry service and a great restaurant!
Cheap place, dubblebed in bungalow with private bathroom for 450 Baht. Nice garden outside. Close to road but still not noisy. 5-10 minutes walk to beach.
Pleasant stay right at the beach
Simple but clean bungalow /w fan
only cold water (the only thing you'll need...)
very affordable (at least in the low season in October) - paid 400 Bht/Night .
You will sleep about 40 meters away from the waterline...
We stayed here on night in a bungalow before our 3 day snorkel live-aboard, and in a hotel room the night we returned from the live-aboard. Both rooms had a fan, anti-moquito coil, bathroom and shower. It is modest and we have no complaints. The bungalow was 900 baht and the room was 700 baht a night. The price is for two people.
The bungalows/rooms are located in the middle of a jungle-like shoreline, and the restaurant is down by the water. We experienced a beautiful sunset and good food. We didn't have time to check wether it is far away from the rest of Khao Lak, but I think it might be a bit. I recommend the place for anyone who want some peace and quiet away from the partying.
A quick update on this place after returning for a couple of days in November 2003.
What has changed?
The picture shows 4 more bungalows being built. These are planned to be more 'upmarket' than the existing ones and will have hot showers, air conditioning, TVs and minibars. Apparently they will go for 1200 Baht a night, twice as much as the current ones.
There have been a couple of nice updates to the existing bungalows. They all now have metal grilles between the windows and insect screens. I don't think security is a real problem in the area but you never know what lowlifes might be attracted to the area with the ever increasing numbers of tourists. It now means that you can leave your windows open for ventilation and no-one can climb in.
I was in heaven when I discovered they have installed electric shower heaters in the bungalows. I was looking forward to returning but not to having cold showers in the morning. This is a really nice feature. There seems to be an unwritten rule that hot water showers are only supplied in air conditioned rooms. I don't mind not having A/C as long as the room is ventilated and there is a decent fan but I do miss hot water.
The owners told me that next year all of the existing bungalows will be fitted with air conditioning units.
What hasn't changed?
Guests staying here still seem to be mostly Swedish, which isn't a bad thing. The Swedes are a fine race of people and I don't think I've met one I haven't liked. There seems to be some truth in the piece of trivia I heard about Germans having to stay on the beach. They just walk past this place on their way to find beachside accommodation.
Tick, the girl on reception, still doesn't smile. She is probably the unhappiest looking Thai I have ever met.
This place is located on a big piece of land some 500 m from the beach. They only have something like 20-24 rooms in 5-6 bungalows - and it's soooo quiet - only an occasional gecko and the cicadas.
Most rooms only with fan at 400-500 Baht for a double. You get clean sheets and towels daily - a bit unusual in this price range.
Besides the pleasant accommodation they also have a very good restaurant. At the peak around 19-20 in the evening you should actually book a table! And the food isn't more expensive than anywhere else.
Quite new - built some time in 2002. Rooms are very clean. Fan rooms go for 500 baht per night and air-conditioned ones for 800 baht.
The location is Bang Niang beach, opposite The Beach Resort.
At the time of writing Bang Niang is a very quiet area but is being developed at a crazy rate.
Near to the beach.
A very nice place as long as you have no desire to be close to the beach. The surroundings are magnificent as it is set amidst a coconut grove. The lush grass and coconut palms outside are very relaxing.
The location is at the southern end of Khaolak and quite a walk to the beach.
Nightly rate is a very reasonable 400 baht.
The bedroom and bathroom are quite small but very clean and I had no problems with mosquitoes.
Very tranquil surroundings at a bargain price.
This place is brand new and within a few minutes walk of the main bus stop in Khaolak. There are just 10 bungalows and these are always quite busy. Apparently they will be building more bungalows here soon. The rooms have fans but no A/C and there is just a cold water shower. In the heat of southern Thailand though, this is quite sufficient.
The daily rate is 600 baht.
Being brand new (opened November 2002) everything is spotlessly clean. The furniture is brand new and the lockable drawers and doors still have keys even. The staff are friendly and the attached restaurant is very good.
Location is very good - the beach is a few minutes to the left and the main road a few minutes to the right. The surroundings are not great - to the front is empty ground with a few plants but this could give way to new bungalows soon. There is a small rubber plantation on one side but construction is going on at the rear.
What I like so much about this place are the rooms which are ultra clean, light and airy. It really is a comfortable feeling and unlike so many budget places I have stayed at in this price range that make me squirm a little.
Very comfortable accommodation in a quiet location. It won't appeal to the clubbing set (thankfully).
This is a perfect example of mid-range accommodation in the Khaolak area. For around 1400 baht you get a great room with hot water and aircon.
The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Facilities include a very nice pool, restaurant, mini-market, massage service, laundry service.
Very close to a quiet, attractive beach.
