where is the best location to stay in Kuala lumpah if i want to get a bus to the airport? I havent yet decided on a train or bus from hatyai to kuala lumpar yet.it depends on how long the bus takes,on the train you can sleep and arrive in the centre, but bus stations are usually far out.

Hi,
The bus to either airport in KL are from KL Sentral. Plenty of hotels in KL and suits every budget. KL Sentral is easy to get to from all areas of KL.
The train from Hat Yai is a long journey but does save on an overnight's accommodation, buses are frequent and cheap and quicker than train, they will arrive in Bukit Jalil, from there you can get a shuttle bus or a train to the centre of KL.
Enjoy Malaysia - I do!

From Hat Yai to KL you also have a choice of shared van rides too. Across from the Kings Hotel, Hat Yai, is a travel agency that I have used a few times for rides to Malaysia.
This Kings Hotel is in a good place for train rides (short walk away) or using the travel agency across the street.

I used local transportation from Hat Yai to get the Penang area and from there I used the train from Butterworth to KL.
In KL if you are there for for a few days get a hotel closest to things you can walk to. A taxi or bus to the airport is not that expensive.
Good luck.

I must advise that nearly ALL drivers talk on their mobile phones or text while driving. Be aware of this and if a group is travelling together PLEASE speak up to the driver and ask him to pull over to the side of the road if his phone rings or he wishes to make a call.
We have recently travelled in different parts of Malaysia and Thailand and it common practice for them to do this. No seat belts in the mini buses, etc. and they drive far too fast and it is a scary way to travel. We will never travel by coach or mini buses there again.my email address was written wrongly. should be val_northbeach@yahoo.co.nz
Travel Tips for Hat Yai
Food & Shopping
by beachboy
Hat Yai the busiest and most prosperous city in Southern Thailand, is well known to many Malaysian and Singaporean with its 'cheap' shopping and tantalizing food. Located about an hour from the border of Thailand - Malaysia, the town is always frequented by people living at northern Malaysia for daily essential.
Staying Dry
by phil_uk_net
The Thais have some interesting ways of staying dry in wet weather while riding motorbikes. Most popular is wearing a big plastic bag but it is extremely common to see them riding around underneath umbrellas.
Sometimes the rear passenger holds the brollie. Solo riders operate their machines using their right hand and carry the umbrella in their left.
What's that you say? Riding without due care and attention? Don't be silly ... this is Thailand. On the roads anything goes.
Walk, walk and walk

Not much to see in Hat Yai and we had plenty of time walking the streets. There are a couple of shopping complexes which are normally bustling with tourists or the locals during weekends.
Malaysian tourists are seen as frequent shoppers in Hat Yai thanks to the convenient location (Hat Yai is at the border of Malaysia) and there are many goods selling at low-cost prices. A notable landmark is nonetheless the massage parlours along the streets offering massage services at pretty reasonable prices. I have not tried any of the massage though. Some look a bit sleazy with their neon lights signages flashing during the night. Some of these parlours are probably targetted at the men only.
O.D.
by travelpug about Odean Shopping Centre
"O.D.," as the locals call it, is a nice place to shop. It is not as fancy as the other department stores in town but they seem to have sale quite often. OD even has "Merdeka Sale" sometimes in August to celebrate Malaysian's independence day!!! For Malaysian tourists, the skincare and cosmetics are cheaper in Thailand. In OD, head to the 2nd floor for these items. But be careful to check the expiration date on the products as I found that merchandise in OD is a bit old sometimes. But you will find good bargain there.
Registration documents for car
by priVaTeer115
Hi there, i went to hatyai last month and so far a photocopy of your vehicle registration card is good enough. But to be on safe side, and if you have the original copy then it would be better.
Just make a copy and bring it along.
FYI I was fortunate that I left hatyai before the area was flood. So ask around first before heading there.
And top up fuel before going in as fuel is more costly there.
Travelling time depends on how you drive. 2-3hrs should get you to bukit kayu Hitam.
Happy traveling and drive safe.
