Insect Snacks
The Thais enjoy eating insects. Personally, grasshoppers and cockroaches don't appeal to me but I know that some food I eat doesn't appeal to Thais. These delicacies can be found at the local market if you wish to try some.

Hi,
There's a train that leaves at 8pm/9pm from KL Sentral and arrives the following day at around 11am in Hat Yai. The cost depends on the seat you choose. I had a sleeper berth and it cost around 50 MYR.

Bring along an umbrella if you're planning to go around Oct - Dec... it was raining heavily in the last 2 days while i was there... Light cloth as the hot sun really hot.... and the temp is quite higt.... and only a few tree in the city...
On the other side of the Sripoovanart Road from downtown Hat Yai it is like a diiferent world. There are no Malaysian tourists, no hotels and nothing else that exists where tourists gather.
Instead there are just locals living a normal life in a provincial Thai town. In the streets fish and strips of meat are laid out on tables, drying in the sun. A farang wandering around is quite noticeable and attracts a lot of attention. But it is good attention consisting of welcoming smiles and the usual question "Pai nai"? (where are you going?).
A very different experience to wandering around Lee Gardens Plaza and one to be recommended.
A little way out of town is the Tesco Lotus superstore. It's a huge, American-style shopping mall that sells just about everything. In addition to the main shopping area there are a number of small retailers in the building and also an outdoor market in the carpark.
Inside are some expensive cars on display that cost more than the average Thai will earn in a lifetime.
As I walked through the door I was nabbed by a salesman selling expensive massage chairs. He sat me down on one of the chairs and pressed some buttons that sent strange sensations through my body.
I'm not sure that this is the best place to try to sell expensive massage chairs. I expect that most tourists would not be interested in lugging one home and the majority of Thais do not have the disposable income for such luxuries. Besides, Hat Yai has hundreds of pretty, young, nubile massage girls that will crawl over your body and work out every ache and pain for 120 Baht an hour. A quick calculation shows that for the price of one of these chairs I can get 825 hours of the real thing.
I didn't buy one.
There are two kinds of tuk-tuk in Hatyai. One is the usual open-air truck and the other is motorbike. The price for both are different, the truck type could cost about 10B higher than motorbike.
The cost from bus station to central Hatyai cost 20B. The rate could be higher during peak hour.
I have good impression to the tuk-tuk driver. Once I was asking the tuk-tuk (truck) price and complaining too expensive. The driver came down from his truck and help me flash down a motorbike.
