We have a choice of staying in either Phi Phi or Ko Lanta for the last 3 nights of our trip in May.
We have to been Phi Phi before, about 18 months ago and really loved it. We can't decide what to do with our time and are tempted to go back although we think it's a waste not to go somewhere new!
We'd want Phi Phi as there are gorgeous beaches and it's fairly peaceful during the day (don't know if it still is) but there are some good bars in the evening - how would this compare Ko Lanta?
Sorry this is a bit vague - it has occured to us to go to Ko Lanta and if we like it stay and if not get the next boat to Phi Phi! We'd prefer to keep the travelling time to a minimum.
Would appreciate anyone's thoughts.

I have been to Ko Lanta for 5 days during Christmas 2007 with my boyfriend. We also took a one day boat trip to Phi Phi. I could not compare Ko Lanta to Phi Phi as it is really less touristic, it has very good beaches and there are a lot of things to do.
If you go south by motorbike you'll reach some area where there are some treks leading into the jungle.
There you can see some great flora: big trees and plants, you see also some birds and reptiles. Really a good adventure.
Stay on the footpaths and try not to get lost!
The roads are now well paved compared to few years ago.So the best way to explore the island would be on a bike dropping off at various waterholes for a beer or 2.Be careful not to have one too many and weave on the road like a drunken snake.The bikes are very low cc,I believe shd be 70 cc and have a choice of automatic clutch ( slightly higher price) so should not be dangerous for begginers.Choice of 4 hrs ,half a day or full day hire which means 24 hrs.
With this acquired mobility you could also visit various eating joints/restaurants to savour the varieties n fares.
Not forgetting you could explore various stretches of beach on the west coast all day long without sacrificing your poor feet.
