Best resorts in Ko Lanta?

by Nemoa

Hi there,
We are going to Ko Lanta in November and we have been told that after the tsunami, most of the infrastructure should be up and running but how about the coast and the beach? We have been told that some parts of the coast might have suffered (coral beds, etc...) and might not be as nice for diving and snorkeling.
Would you know what are the best beaches to go and enjoy at least the snorkeling? Any knowledge of beaches that would be better to avoid (because of mass tourism or damage to the marine landscape)?

Thanks, guys!

You can actually try PhiPhi Island, Phuket, Coral Island or even Phang Nga Bay. Else you mat try Similan Islands for diving. They have one of the best dive sites around the region with sight going to as far as 45m underwater.

Hi,
thanks a lot. We have already our tickets for Ko Lanta so we have to stick to it. I was only hoping the island would not be too damaged by the tsunami.
Thanks!!

Travel Tips for Ko Lanta

Sea Kayaking

by jenniferchin

Sea kayaking is FUN !! This day trip was over at Talabeng Island.

http://www.krabidir.com/lantaseakayak/ Kayaking along the island was really cool and fun ! No worries if you have no experience. The helpful guide will take care of you. We explored a few caves there. Very exciting !!

Lunch was included in the trip. Having a nice meal of rice, vegetables, fried fish, omelate and tom yum soup, washed down with sweet juicy pineapples and watermelon on the beach is totally glorious !!

Elephant trek

by francischris

Booked over Hotel counter.Per pax B900 include a bottle of water n fruits.About 3 hrs activity so best in the morning or around 3 noon ,best to avoid the 12 noon sun which is at the hottest. The car will pick u frm the hotel.
Quite fun to ride on this gentle giant although the journey is a bit short. It is like sitting on a gentle swaying hammock. When the elephant reaches the resting point ,we had a guide (include in the package) to take us on a trek by foot to the waterfall around 1.5 hrs.On the way he show us local faunas....monkeys.,monitor lizards as well as some local plants supposedly having aphrodisiac value. Then backtrack downstream to the elephant resting point and back to base via top of elephant.

A brief update, as I'm back here AGAIN and I reckon it's to stay as long as I can. I have totally fallen in love with this place, can't get enough...

I am stuck here!! This is the best place I've been to and people who have travelled throughout Thailand all agree that its the greatest vibe, and view in the whole of Koh Lanta. If you were thinking of giving Ko Lanta a miss, then CHANGE your mind!! Totally awsome, on top of a hill, and a 5 min walk straight down (and up) onto a beautiful beach. So i've been leaving now for a week... Not quite sure what to do...

"My Bungalow"

I bought a hammok in town for 200 bhat, and hung it outside my little bungalow, these rooms have mosquito nets (although in all the time i've been here, i haven't seen one mozzie) and fans and bathroom with shower. Oh and glorious sea views...

"Sunset"

I think the picture pretty much says it all. This was taken last night during supper. We are sitting on a wooden table jutting out off the cliff about 40meters up from the sea.
