New Long Beach Resort: Lanta's accomodation
The beaches on Lanta are pretty much lined with hotels and bungalows; although still less than Ko Phi phi. It's still not a resort-like island and has a nice atmosphere. I have to say that I visited the island in March, which is the end of the season when things are a little bit quieter.
I wanted to stay near Ban Saladan because all the diving is from that town, so long beach was a logical choice. There are many hotels along long beach and this was one of them. A very good choice: cheap (250 Bath for a bungalow with shower and toilet) and comfortable. About 100 m from the beach and the place has a supurb restaurant.
If you're not in for the diving you'll probably want to go more south as it's cheaper and quieter.

New Bungalows: Tree house @ Ko Jum
I was only on Ko Jum for a few hours. My 'base' there was New Bungalows. There's quite a wide range of accomodation there ~ from the air-conditioned with full ensuite facilties to the really rustic with shared/common bathrooms.
I LOVE this treehouse. Its sooo cool :-) The only downside is that there are no toilets attached (obviously).

Uncle Jak's Steak house and Bungalow: 1st night on Ko Lanta
I was suppose to get a place over at Lanta Riviera Bungalows but the rooms there were completely blocked out that night. Instead, Lek, the guy from the resort sourced another place for me to spend the night. Hence, Uncle Jak's.
Bamboo house a little more basic than Lanta Riviera Bungalows.

Sanctuary: A little different-In a good way
What I really like about this place is the thought that they have put into it. We have a large fan bamboo/wooden bungalow not far from the sea. The furniture inside is wooden with branches serving as clothes hooks. The bathroom ceiling is open, the walls are quite high so you still have privacy. One of the better showers that we have had, such a simple idea using a hose pipe. Plenty of room on the balcony with two large wooden benches and the essential hammock. Mosquito net above the bed.
Just be prepared for a few bugs to share the place with you.
We are paying 400B for a double bungalow in the middle of October.
Very relaxed place with great attention to detail. Open bathroom with plants and trees.

National Park at Ko Rok: Camp out n Save some money !
Back to nature amongst the trees with sandy beach and crystal clear water at your door step.I was there on a snorkelling trip so i took the opportunity to check with the park officer on the facility. For 300 Baht which includes B100 for admission u are provided with a tent.Going back from the campsite to Ko lanta is easy as u can always negotiate with the regular boats that do the day snorkelling trips ,as they always inevitably come to Ko Rok.
Bathrooms are clean and there is a canteen for food.

Andaman Sunflower Resort: Onto a good thing
Most of the people staying here were on their second visit, or had extended their visa to stay longer. I booked in for two nights and ended up staying three weeks. The accomodation itself is pretty basic and cheap, but the people running it are very accommodating. They included me in Thai barbeques, sending a message to god, various trips around the island to other beaches, bars, restaurants and markets (just for fun), and a trip to the Lanta Fair. They helped out with hiring a boat for a four island trip, and taught me various things about Thai culture and language.
The woven panelling making the bungalows lets small dots of light in through the gaps. Of a night time, when the light hits the mosquito net over the bed, it's kinda like sleeping in The Matrix.
Andaman Sunflower will do your laundry, hire you a moped, help you book tours and travel, and bring Singha to your hammock. The food is great there too, don't miss the banana pancake and coconut milkshake.

Best House: Best acco at Long Beach
We stayed here for 11 nights so yes.... we enjoyed it here. The building is in concrete what´s not so common at Long beach and the rooms are very, very clean. The staff is also very helpfull and the will do everything to make sure that you will enjoy your stay at Ko Lanta!
Clean, quiet, close to the beach, friendly,...

Sanctuary: Garden bungalows...
We were walking along the beach and finally came to one which was called Santuary. We walked in and asked we could see any available bungalow. One lady showed us [Jen & I] the bungalow, wooden with fan togther with a no roof bathroom. The shower comes from a bamboo which is placed across the brick wall of the bathroom. We liked the place and immediately wanting to pay a deposit. We stayed on for three nites here. Nite time skyline...what a sight, something which is not seen back home in Kuala Lumpur. So many shinning stars !

Sri Lanta Resort: The second Best
I was in Ko Lanta on April 2004.
About the hotels in the island, my first choice should be Pimalai Resort & Spa, but the prices are huge, more or less 160 USD per day. So i find another resort called Sri Lanta.
Very nice situated, with speedboat transfer from Krabi, very secluded, nice beach and very pleasant, with a moderate price 86USD.
There are a huge quantity of resorts in Ko Lanta, the major part are very cheap 20 or 30 USD per day.

Green Garden Resort: Lovely private resort
Perfect for unwinding, you get minimal disturbance here.
As it's family-owned & run, service is quite good & personal.
They have a good selection of meals available & ample supply of drinks. The stretch of beach-front is clean, nice & scenic.
We were told the beach is great, but it was very rocky. This was a surprise, as the sea conceals that fact - you just see the lovely smooth sand! If you're not careful you can easily hurt/cut yourself in the water, especially if you run or fall down! You have to wade out a lot to get away from the rocks !!
The disadvantage that came with it's remote location was that you have to travel 10kms into town for any real action or larger supermarkets. Nearest banks, post offices etc are in Saladan, 10 kms away.
Funky bar by the beach, where they have nailed up all sorts of salvaged/recovered footwear!
All individual private bungalows with their own balconies, overlooking the central garden in front & sea on the right.
Good internet cafe & printing facilities, min spend 40 THB, or 60 THB/hour.
If you are after some peace following crazy, loud parties, this is the place for you. Most people here were recovering from the 'noise pollution' of Koh Pha Ngan !!
Good massages available here.
For transport, they rent out their van (50 THB to Saladan) & several mopeds (200 THB/day).

Lanta Villa Resort: The middle of the beach!
We booked into this resort for 5 nights but ended up staying for 10.
Lanta Villa has lots of different bungalows, ranging from beachside, air-con ones to much cheaper, simpler rooms with fans. All rooms were bungalows with their own balconies. Ours was very clean and well looked after.
The resort is on the beach with quite a wide beach front area.
The staff in the restaurant are laid back and friendly. The Thai food there was lovely. They had a fresh fish selection every night which they'd BBQ for you.
Lanta Villa was a good place to stay - mid-range. It is on a really nice beach and it's near the main town, so it's handy if you are going to be going off on ferries or trips to the mainland - or if you want to go into Saladan for food or bars in the evenings.
There's a small pool there which looks much bigger in their hotel website photos!
Washing can be done nearby instead of at the hotel which is cheaper and there is an ATM and some mini-markets a short walk back up to the main road. Many other bars and restaurants very close to Lanta Villa so lots of variety. You can sit on the beach and watch the sun go down at most places around there.
We were happy with the place we stayed - everyone was friendly and helpful, they can arrange just about anything for you from ferries to other islands to days out to laundry.
The best thing about most places on Lanta Yai is going to be the sunset and the beach. You just can't beat sitting on the beach, having a drink and watching the sun setting over the Phi Phi islands.
