Mountain Resort: Rude Staff on the mountain

The staff at the hotel especially the chinese lady at the reception was very dismissal and even though we had confirmed bookings she was reluctant to handover the room keys. After a call to the tour operator this was resolved but hardly what you would expect after a long boat ride from the mainland. Food was mediocre at best and the restaurant had many mosquitoes at dinner time. No attempt was made to fumigate the place or burn mosquito coils. Though eventually on our last night we saw them attempting to burn a few coils to cover the whole open restaurant area.

Unique Quality: The views are fantastic but only for the 8 Deluxe sea view chalets as the others are blocked by this row or are facing sideways.

The Reef Hotel - Koh Lipe: Relaxed and cozy

Hi
Just wanted to share my stay at this relaxed Hotel at Koh Lipe.
Me and my girlfriend arived in the middle of jan. 2009 and only wanted to stay at Koh Lipe for 3 days, but ended up staying for 11 dayes at The Reef Hotel - Koh Lipe.
The Reef had a relaxed and very friendly atmusfare. The rooms was cleane and the bed was a high standard. 150 meters away is Sunrise Beach witch in my view is the best beach on Koh Lipe.

I will be comming back to that place next year :) www.thereefthailand.com

The Reef Hotel: The Reef Hotel No regrets!

Hello everyone,

I have been to Koh Lipe several times and every time I've lived in different resorts, but I must say that on this island, I never got so much value for my money as I got at The Reef Hotel.
The hotel is located on a hill about 150 meters from Sunset Beach, so not directly on the beach, but but very easy access to all the beaches on Ko Lipe.
It has both aircon and hot water, and there is always clean in the rooms, Which also large and comfortable to live in, there is a super nice staff, Which always ensure that everything is okay.

in addition to the amazing living facilities, is a nice balcony from where you can enjoy a view over the chao ley village, koh adang and also sunrise beach. At the reef there is also a bar and a cozy lounge, for a small party :)

But the best part is that it only cost 1200 Baht pr. night.

I would recommend anyone to stay at this location because it is simply here to get the most value for your money.

Everything got to my friends at The Reef, I will certainly return next year.

Unique Quality: A stand out facility at The Reef Hotel is definitely the view from the Balcony, this you will not find on any other location on koh lipe.

A i wrote in the review, the large rooms and the price/quality.

Thai Hut Resort: Rude Owner!!

On first sight, the Thai Hut Resort on Koh Lipe looked more professional than most and being away from the beach, I thought I would get a more peaceful night. However, it didn't live up to my expectation at all. On arrival, my reservation was nowhere to be found making my many overseas phone calls a waste of time and money. I was also charged more than originally agreed. Then I was left with a very uncomfortable feeling on hearing disgruntled staff arguments behind the restaurant late at night. When i tried to change my hut away from the hot daily sun I was completely ignored and the staff simply disappeared. Finally, my hut was left uncleaned for several days and when I did manage to speak to the owner, I got a shocking reply.. "If you don't like then leave!". Of course, I did immediately but then as I tried to check out the owner tried to charge me for a meal twice and refused to listen to my protests.
Not to be undone, I hunted around and stayed at Daya which was very basic but the staff were a delight after the Thai Hut. Koh Lipe is a truely wonderful island so don't let one rude owner put you off!

Unique Quality: Absolutely no great redeeming features at all!

Moonlight: Koh Lipe new accomodation 2009

The Moonlight Resort is very new and opened November 2009. Right on Pattaya Beach, the accommodation is above basic and very clean making it great value for 600 bahts a night. The manageress, Noo, is a lovely pleasant person and can help you with all your fishing and diving trips. They have internet at the front desk as well as a small shop and a 'juice booth' from which they can make fresh cool drinks to sit and watch the sunset. Best of all, they have the only spa which is situated on a 2nd floor (above the reception) giving you not only great views of the ocean but making it also the most private in Koh Lipe. Can highly recommend!

Unique Quality: The spa is in my opinion the best along Pattaya beach

Andaman Resort Koh Lipe: The worst places to stay on Lipe

Give it a miss! We booked our rooms 3 months in advance from a lady on the phone, she guaranteed it. We arrived to find that we did not have the rooms that we wanted. We stayed i one of their 'Beach' rooms facing the ocean. The 6 hour electricity was sporadic and allowed every mosquito on the island to find every hole in the net. We had a rat eat our bags. The toilet did not work and we were met with horrible accusations from the owner. It smelled bad the whole time. The lock was busted on the door.
The view was fantastic if you looked past the mounds of rubbish and big pits near the beach where they burn trash. One morning started at 6am, what a horrible smell to wake up to. The longtails are enough to drive you crazy. We ate at te restaurant 3 times and 3 times it was bad service and very basic ingredients, 2 pieces of chicken in a fried rice chicken.
They have lost all touch with reality. It seems as if they are just waiting to sell at the right price.
They have newer bungalows behind the others, but the toilets flow directly into the jungle not 5 meteres away.
We had booked for one week and tried to cancel after 3 days, she told us that we had to pay for the remaining nights. Prices have doubled in the past year. They double the price and dont fix anything.
Be careful people, all is not what it seems in Paradise!
I would never reccommend Andaman Resort, we heard so many horrible complaints from the other guests too.
Had the staff been a little more friendly, even slightly, we would have had no problem. We got nothing but blank stares and accusing eyes and all we asked was if someone could fix the leaky toilet.
We didnot see the rats, but they ate through 2 waterproof bags. There is so much rubbish buried behind the bungalows that they are infesting the place.
There are many other places on that island, forget Andaman until they sellout.

Andaman Resort: Andaman Resort

When I first step feet on the island, I was neither pleased nor disappointed with the condition of the chalet. Guess I had no expectation over anything - my friend handled everything for us, we just need to get our bums there.

Mosquito net provided - first thing you should do once you enter the room is to fix the net so that insects do not get any chance to attack you at night. Electricity supply will be from 6pm-6am everyday. During the day, should you need to charge battery for mobile phone, you can go to the resort restaurant and charge there (ask reception/cashier). Bring insect repellant! The island's hot and humid weather even at night is a mess if combined with mosquitos and they are many!

Unique Quality: The chalets which cost 500 baht per night during low season are facing the main beach, and not too hot during the day as there are many trees providing shady spots.

castaway resort: Ko Lipe's best resort

Newly opened this year, castaway resort offers something more on many levels. It is located on the beautiful sunrise beach with breathtaking views of the Andaman Sea doted with Small Island adding to the fantastic view, this beach is much quitter than the very busy Pattaya Beach and also has some of the best reef just a short swim away.

Unique Quality: The resort is constructed in wood and has a very Asia feel to it, the resorts restaurant is no exception consisting of two buildings and a very large deck area allowing guests to really taking in the great views.
The bungalows are also constructed out of wood and are designed in a traditional Thai style; they are very large and airy, offering on suit bathrooms all lovingly decorated to a high standard. The resort it self offers beside the normal amenities a spa and a dive center that can offer guest fun dives to full training programs. If you are planning to stay on Koh Lipe you can’t do better than staying at castaway resort (http://www.castaway-resorts.com) Phone: +66 (0) 811 707 605 or +66 (0) 831 387 472

Forra Diving and Bamboo Resort: The best accommodation in Koh Lipe.. probably!

I stayed at Forra resort in April 2007 and it was fantastic! The bungalows are new, really big, well thought out and hand crafted from bamboo and natural materials. The whole place seems to have been built with a lot of concern for the environment... not something that can be said about most of the big resorts on koh lipe.
We also went diving with Forra for the first time and it was a great day out! They have a nice big boat with a sundeck on top (not a noisy longtail) and we spent the day in the marine park, which was so beautiful. For this we even got a discount on the bungalow on the day that we went diving.
Last word about their restaurant - WOW! Amazing views, all open plan and made of wood with much needed shade and really comfortable thai seats to lounge around in, they even serve real coffee and their massaman curry is the best on the island!

Unique Quality: There are a few bungalows right on the beach and then more just behind, which are raised on stilts so have seaviews. Even the cheaper ones at the back have a seaview from their second mezzanine floors! Julie had a penthouse view from her bed (see photo!) They are really new, big, simple and really good for tropical living.
The bungalow had a double four poster bamboo bed with white good quality mosquito net. Some of the larger bungalows behind have a second floor where an extra single or double bed can be put so can sleep 3 or 4. All bungalows have fans, cushions for lazing around on and private really big bathrooms with terracotta tiled floors. Speaking of the bathrooms - they are great! They are partly open air (the bit where the shower is) so that you can look up and see the plams trees above while showering!! It also means that the bathroom is light, bright and airy (a problem that I have with a lot of bungalows is the bathroom which quite often is small, dark and damp). The terrace was really big and as soon as we got our hammock strung up, we were set!
Just thinking about the amazing view of the sea from our bed makes me want to go back now! You could even hear the waves at night.. ahhh

koh Lipe Resort and Mountain Resort.: Koh Lipe Resort Vs Mountain Resort

I was last on Koh Lipe in April 2007 for a week.

Firstly, we stayed at Koh Lipe Resort in their 1,200 baht concrete bungalow with a fan. When we arrived we entered the room and i checked out the bathroom to be greeted by a toilet blocked to the brim with sh*t and vomit! Delightful! They quickly moved us to another bungalow once we pointed this out however the bathroom was still very grim. I have to agree with another post on here about the toilet.... its just not nice at all. The room was clean albeit slightly dull. Worst thing is NO water or electricity between 6am and 6 pm! The restaurant at the resort is ok but overpriced for its quality. The price tag of 1,200 for the room staggers me.

Mountain Resort was our second place.......... Well! Talk about location, the curved beach view from the restaurant is out of this world! We stayed in their cute wooden bungalows with a fan. These were very clean, 24 HOUR electricity and water plus your own little terrace and all for 600 baht a night. They have more exclusive ones there too with UBC Tv! The restaurant, has amazing views and serves good food and the staff are friendly and helpful. They also organize reasonably priced boat tours to the other islands. On the beautiful beach itself there is Karma Bar, a chilled out place playing funky beats with a friendly crowd and great cocktails.

All i can say, in my experience, when i return to Koh Lipe i know where i will be staying!!
