Looking for budget accomodation
Hi myself and my friend going to FMP in october and were looking for cheap but nice accomodation something on the beach. Whats the best place to stay thats not too close to haad rin. Was looking at pinks huts in ban tai anyone recommend this place or anywhere else?
Any idea would be great help. Thanks.

I stayed at the Seaview Haadrin on the beach but was not a good place to stay.
There are many places to stay on and off the beach but Full Moon Party time it will near impossible to find some place to stay.
Another beach I stayed at was on the north side of the island a place called Ao Chakok Lam. People usually come here to get the boat to Bottle Beach but I was unlucky and decided to stay a few days and had a better time here than on haadrin itself. Not a lot to do here but It is a quite fishing village with one bar and I quite enjoyed my time here. Their only a couple bungalows owners back in 2006 I stayed at North Beach Bungalows only about 200bht. price may have gone up a little by now.

I think I stayed at Coral Bungalows in Sunset Beach. It was nice for the money. Rooms were clean, they have internet/travel agent, pool, nice restaurant and huge TV that shows movies/sports during the day. Not too far from Haad Rin (10-15 walk), but far enough if you want to get away from that whole scene from time to time. Also has motorbike rental places on the road right by the entrance if you're interested in that at all.

i stayed on tong nai pan noi beach on the other side of the island about 45 mins away from haad rin, very beautiful beach and has a small village behind the beach i stayed at baan panburi was really nice and the huts by the beach cost 500 bath over the net or 400 walk in the beach is really as good as it looks in the pictures. you can get rides to and back from the full moon party. if you get there you have to try handsomes chicken burgers on the corner before the bungalows. the best !

Bantai and Bankai are not too far away from Haad Rin and there are some cheaper bungalow resorts on the beach. The beach at Bantai is good and there is the handy 7-11 where you can get cheap snacks. The only problem with Full Moon Party accommodation is that there is normally a minimum stay of 3 to 5 nights.
Travel Tips for Ko Phangan
Helper Monkeys!
You will sometimes see in Thailand monkeys being used to help farmers collect coconuts or used for other tasks.
The monkey in the photo was found alone in the jungle as a baby who had lost its parents to poachers. The man that found it then brought it up as his own as it would not have survived alone at its age. Making the most of a bad situation.
Motorbikes
You can rent a bike from many places around the island. This is the best way to see the island, some roads can be quite dangerous so watch out, but this is half the fun. The journey to Thon Nai Pan is good fun especially in the rainy season when the jungle roads are like rivers. Enjoy!
Man overboard
This bar is set into the rocks in the shape of a pirates ship. It is very chilled with cushions scattered around. The staff are friendly. They do have party nights normally a couple of nights before the full moon. Because of where they are situated on the beach they do have a little beach to themselves. This place is for dry weather as there is no shelter.
Just watch yourself after a few drinks as you may fall over board, the sides are pretty low. No dress code
ON THE TRAIN (2)
After a dinner at the train's cafeteria, I went back to my own seat. Wow! They turned my "seat" to a sleeper with clean pillow and bedsheet! Hey how stupid I was?!!! Luckily I did not complain to the staff, otherwise I don't know where to dig a hole to bury my head! (^0^)
So... here I am on the sleeper with my luggage, princles, Lonely Planet, and Baton_West! Can't sleep very well though, but much better than I expected.
