Full Moon Accommadation
Right so folks,
There is a bunch of us headin to the full moon party, I see there is a load of places to stay around Haad Rin, can anyone recommend any place to stay in the town somewhere, where you have stayed, we are looking for a place that is priced around 200 bath or less even, just looking for something simple a hut with a bed and a net, no bugs under the bed, thats all I ask thanks.
Please note it was me that left the message blow, I'm not crazy I just but the town Haat Yi instead of Haad Rin.
By the way Haad rin is a strange oul place well it was wneh i was there plenty of rodents on the streets....
Re: Full Moon Accommadation
I don't think you're going to be able to find a place for 200 baht, especially if you want to stay in town.
Many of those "loads" of places are quite a trek from town, and you'll have to cab it in and out, at a cost of 100 baht each person each way (and you need 4 ppl before the taxi will even leave).
Sea Breeze and Same Same are two good spots (same same is pretty new), well located, clean etc etc...but i think ud be looking at 4-500 per person.
me and my gf stayed in seabreeze for 500 baht/night, queen size bed and the bungalow was large-ish so you could prolly fit two more on the floor if need be.
Ive also been there solo, in low season, and i was paying about 350/night (in a pretty nice place on the beach, i forget the name of it - but, if you were facing the ocean on the main beach...the last place on your right)
If you cant book in advance, be sure to get there at least 2 days early if you can.
Re: Full Moon Accommadation
I think that you will struggle to get an okay place that is bug free for less than 200 B. Why not stay on one of the beaches on the Island. You can get a better deal and you can still get a taxi to the full Moon party. We paid 450B last year in Haad Rin and still had bed bugs, We stayed in better places around the Island for less. Have a look at my page for ideas.
Travel Tips for Ko Phangan
Chicken Corner..the Koh San of KPG.
Chicken Corner is a great place to start off if you’re not to sure where exactly you want to go....there are many transportation options - boat or taxi. You can also sort yourself out with a place to stay for the first night. In addition it is a good meeting point if your trying to hook up with some friends for the evening...its a small cross road of two streets right off the beach...there are three restaurants on the corner with the fourth being an internet cafe/laundry service. A great place for a meal and to people watch...also, food open late into the early hours of the morning. 1)Falling out of the restaurant from taking a step backwards and missing the step I didnt know was there....I was up fast though....cut my toe in the process and five minutes after leaving the restaurant, got an accidental cig burn in my forehead from some guy talking with his hands....at that point it was time to go...the next day the hitch and I split the island.
2)Hanging with Amy and the two aussies on the afternoon of NYE with no place to stay....took turns checking out places...finally found a bungalow - the last one - turned out to be the worst place ever (see:accom tips).
3)Amy and I around 3 in the morning on New Years watching people go by....what type of shake was that we had around 10pm?
Waterproof sunblock & plenty of it!
The other half of sunrise beach, a beautifull keyhole shaped beach. Lights appear on the hills at night and you realise that some lucky beggars are actually living up there. Spent all day playing in the surf and burned to a crisp, dont forget a good waterproof sunblock.
Full Moon Party and more
For wild, uninhibited nightlife there's only one place to go on the island : Hat Rin!!!
The famous Full Moon Party is a huge dance event on the beach, which shouldn't be missed if you have the chance, but even on other nights, there's always something going on. The atmosphere on the beach is great, you sit on bamboo mats, listen to music (it's not only techno) and drink a couple of 'Buckets of Joy'.
Even though Hat Rin is not a 'prole-free' zone, the crowd is pretty mixed.
If you consider yourself sophisticated you need to have the ability to switch off your brain while you're in Hat Rin, otherwise you won't be able to enjoy yourself.
Khao San Road bus
The bus ticket from Bangkok to Koh Phangan can be bought on the Khao San road in Bangkok for about 500Bt which is excellent value as this includes a bus and ferry. The only down side to this is that it takes about 18 hours to complete this journey and in by the time you arrive in you are absloutly shattered!
The other alternative is to get the sleeper train to Surat Thani and the ferry to Koh Phangan but this is a lot more expensive and is more hassle really.
The easiest way to get to Koh Phangan is to fly to Koh Samui and to get the ferrry from Big Buddah pier. Obviously flying is the most expensive option and is therefore rarely taken by many backpackers.
I have done the journey by each of these modes of transport and would say if your backpacking take the first option but if your not on a too tight budget then take fly.
Wat Kow Tahm
That is the dining-hall of Wat Kow Tahm. Best vegetarian food in whole Thailand! Thanks to the nuns!
This is not a public restaurant. When you are doing a meditaion-retreat, all meals are included: rice, vegetables and fruits for breakfast, more rice and veggies for lunch and only fruits for dinner.
In Buddhist Temples in Thailand the monchs and nun normally don't eat any dinner. So the delicious friut-salad, we got for dinner, was something, they prepared only for us foreigners. Great!
