More about Rasananda Resort & Spa
Fantastic resort at a beautiful setting
Our trip to Rasanda was with two kids at 2 years and 5 months. We stayed first 2 days in a Lagoon Villa and the next 7 days in a beach front garden view villa.
Both villas were fantastic. The layout and the care for detail both in decoration and small extras was great. The beachfront villa however was our preference. Waking up looking at the beach and ocean was unbeatable and lounging in the evening right on the beach was super.
The restaurant has excellent food but the service in the restaurant lacked a lot. This is addressed to management and hopefully will be improved over time.
The just opened Spa was spectacular. Although expensive the staff was very professional and competent and worth the money. The Spa itself was beautifully layed out in multiple levels up the hill. It's a must see and try.
The setting was beautiful on a quiet beach in a lagoon. It is very child friendly shallow waters.
Be aware that there are almost no advanced activities/sight seeing to do so expect it to be a romantic vacation relaxing in the sun, walking the beach etc.
As a side note we stayed for 4 hours at Rasananda's sister resort Buri Rasa in Koh Samui. The level on the 2 resort are not at all comparable. Rasananda is many levels higher in standard!
The best four days ever
Beautiful Beach, very well decorated, great pool, spacious Villas, all very close to the beach with privacy, superfriendly stuff (although some of the stuff speaks no English at all and you might end up with a banana shake although you ordered coconut - but after one day in this resort you're in such a good mood that you really don't care) and service (before dawn they come and light a little citronella candle, in the afternoon you'll find icecubes and your free gin, wodka and whiskey refilled, and when you geht back home the most delicious thai desserts in trial sizes are waiting for you...) my husband and I had the best four days ever. Rasananda did spoil us for the rest of our lifes, because now I don't wanna spend my vacation anywhere else anymore. I really hope they will offer some good rates every once in a while even when the soft opening promotion time is over, so that we, unfortunately not the Trumps, can come back...
The perfect relaxation experience in paradise
We selected to go the Rasanda based on the good reviews we had read on trip advisor and we wern't disappointed. The journey seemed complicated with two flights, a speedboat connection and a drive to the resort, however this went very well with agents situated at all connections. After a long flight the speedboat connection was very exhilerating, we arrived at Ko Phangan totally refreshed and awake. The driver greeted us with wet towels and a refreshing cool drink.
We were then greeted at the Rasananda with a cocktail and a friendly introduction to the resort. The room was ready even though we arrived at noon. The room was excellent with our own pool and well stocked mini bar. The pictures we had seen were exactly as the rooms were, luxurious in decor, a very comfortable bed superb bathroom and a lovely outdoor shower facility. The only issue we had with the room was a drainage smell which persisted throughout our stay. We did complain about this twice to the reception staff, as a result the excellent housekeeping staff did their best to mask the smell with various aromas and candles. Hopefully this will be rectified before the next guest take the room on. (No 32)
The staff were amazing although tremendously overworked. Chart the restaurant manager was outstanding, he worked every day from 6am to 1am and still kept smiling, he made our holiday very special. Also the guy who looks after the sunbeds and Kayaks was also a great assett to the resort, his name was Orme. The food was lovely, and the setting on the beachfront was a wonderful and romantic experience.
We also sampled the facilities of the superb Spa facilities. I reccommend this to every guest. Although more expensive than other massages in the area it is well worth the extra. The rooms and the facilities are amazing, go for it and enjoy the experience.
I would also recommend you sample the food available at other restaurants available on the beach front. All offer good quality food at reasonable prices.
In a nutshell I would say this is the best holiday we have ever had, normally we do not return to places we have already visited, however we will definately be returning to the Rasananda hopefully within a year. Thank you to all the staff who helped make our stay so magical. Special thanks to Chart and Orme, I hope they are still there when we return. If you are unsure about this resort, don't be, you will love it!!
Little slice of heaven
I stayed at the Rasananda with a friend for 8 days. It's quite an adventure to get there, but well worth the trip. The resort is located right on a picture perfect beach - pristine white sand bordered by coconut palms and a bay of crystal clear turquoise water. Colourful fishing boats are tethered together out on the bay and long "taxi" boats are available all day to take you on trips to other beaches around the island. In the morning the beach was glorious, almost deserted. It didn't get busy either, this in itself seemed a luxury.
The grounds of the resort are immaculate and lush, full of tropical plantings that will be stunning once fully established. The villas are fabulous, stylish and sophisticated, with elegant finishes. We were in a garden villa. True, there was no view of the beach but it was very private set in a walled garden with dip pool out of site to other guests. We loved the bathroom provisions, including aromatic clove scented moisturizer and shampoo. The little sweet treats provided each evening were yummy. The whole resort has a contemporary cool feel, with some edgy design elements. The infinity pool is bliss. During the day the staff working round the pool and beach provided little treats like cold fruit kebabs, a welcome touch in temperatures that were 30+ everyday.
The food in the restaurant was delicious and very reasonably priced for a 5 star resort. Wine is expensive, but this seems to be the norm in Thailand. Breakfast was terrific and made to order with plenty of extras available on a buffet, including champagne and orange and bloody marys. We also ate at several local cafes and little restaurants in the village, well worth trying and great spicy food.
The staff at the Rasananda are terrific - cheerful, charming and attentive. I thought the service was spot on. The vibe is relaxed. If it was fast and furious, it wouldn't be a tropical paradise. We had a massage at the newly opened spa, literally built in to the rocks and boulders on the side of a jungle mountain. It was great, but my only negative comment is that the spa is over priced. Still, it is just not possible to find fault with this resort, you'd have to be trying really hard not to enjoy every single element. I was so relaxed by the end of our stay it was a big effort pack and leave.
I hope to return, and highly recommend it to anyone wanting a genuine getaway. Its just gorgeous.
This place is paradise
My husband and I stayed at the beautiful Rasananda for 6 nights at the end of April in the 2nd half of our Thailand holiday. We did not know what to expect as there were very few reviews before we went and last year we had our perfect honeymoon in Mexico which will obviously take some beating. We were certainly not disappointed. The place is a romantic paradise.
We stayed in a Thai villa which had the two huge floors, downstairs with pool, garden and bed and upstairs luxury bedroom and bathroom. The Villas were absolutely beautiful and had everything you could need plus more. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a beachfront villa on the final night as we participated in a promotional video for the hotel which was being filmed while we were there.
The staff cannot do enough for you and are very attentive and friendly. When relaxing on the beach they bring little snacks (slices of pizza, fruit kebabs) plus ice cold flannels. A local snack was often left in our room in evening with a personal note from the staff. All the attention to detail makes you feel very pampered and important.
The breakfast was varied with buffet plus al a carte menu. I recommend the pancakes with orange and chocolate!! We ate in the hotel twice. The food was outstanding and quite reasonable considering it was a 5* hotel. There are also a few nice places along the beach as well which are great value and the food is good (BBQs, traditional Thai food). To be honest we didn’t have a bad meal in our entire two weeks in Thailand.
The beach is beautiful. It was a difficult choice between bathing in the clear sea or into the hotels infinity pool (which had jacuzzi seats). At night the hotel bring out these huge beanbags on the beach where you can sit, drink and watch the sea.
Locally there is a tattoo shop which doesn’t look much from the outside (or inside really but has character) but it sells some really lovely jewellery – worth a visit. There are also a couple of convenience shops. We booked a trip to Koh Tao through one of the travel agents there which was well organised and worth a visit.
We were very sad to leave at the end. I would highly recommend the Rasananda and look forward to seeing it hitting the number 1 spot on trip advisor soon
Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.
Could Be Fabulous
We were really impressed with what we saw on arrival at the Rasananda, it was beautiful hotel set on a fantastic beach but because it was so very new we ended up having no end of problems:
On arrival, it was clear that this hotel was still under construction. The spa was yet to open and only 27 rooms were finished. There was only one restaurant open (we had paid for full board) so we had to eat from the same menu, breakfast and dinner for 10 days.
The British chef was fantastic however he flew to Phuket the first week we were there, this sent the restaurant seriously downhill and we were unable to order a pizza without confusion and ended up sending it back. Numerous people were walking out without paying and we witnessed as much as one in every two meals served throughout the whole restaurant sent back to the kitchen. Food was often served very undercooked. We often waited over an hour for food to arrive, which would have been fine if it had been what we asked for!.
Our room was left unlocked by staff twice after being cleaned. Reception, unable to understand simple English did not understand so we left a note on our bed to say please lock our room in case someone may have been able to read it. The following two days however, the room was left uncleaned so we ended up having to call at 5pm to ask them to come and do it. Turn down service was also hit and miss.
We cleared our bill for drinks, mini bar etc twice, and on both occasions had been overcharged by thousands of baht. Mainly food which should have been included in our half board package.
We were told there there would be a butler and free laundry. There was no butler and we were offered five pieces of laundry to be sent the day before we left.
Our return journey was the worst part of our holiday. We had been to reception three times in three days to confirm that our transfers were booked and told that we would be travelling as we arrived i.e. same car, same speedboat and people would be there to collect us holding a board with our name on just like when we arrived. That was wrong - we were picked up in a Rasananda vehicle at 7am and taken to the main Port (not the one we had arrived at) and told by the driver to get our tickets. We tried to explain that we had paid for transfers and they were supposed to be private - Why do we need to buy tickets? We eventually bought tickets for a decrepit old boat that left the port at 8am in a panic because we didn't want to miss our flight from Samui to Bangkok at 10am. We were told it would take half an hour but we were on the boat for over an hour which left us in a desperate rush to get to Samui airport on time. There was not anyone there to take us to the airport from the boat as promised and we had to pay for a taxi. We arrived for our flight to Bangkok just in time but were given seats at the opposite end of the plane because we were last to check in.
Hopefully guests have stayed there since and seen an improvement because it is such a shame.
Fantastic Honeymoon Retreat
WOW, this resort is amazing. Myself and my new husband decided we wanted a trip of a lifetime and Rasananda provided us with exactly what we wanted. The setting is immaculate, the rooms are fantastic. We stayed in both the garden suite with a terrace pool that had no seaview but still gorgeous. We changed the room to an ocean view suite with terrace pool, which is also wonderful for our last few days.
A free complimentary bar which is filled up every day, along with free daily snacks AND little cakes to taste along with your turn down service every night.
The rooms were immaculate and the staff were very friendly. Every day felt like a dream come true, it was truly magical.
It hadn't been open for long when we arrived, so a lot of the spa treatments were not on offer, but the spa staff were very helpful and offered what they could. It was very expensive but we felt it was worth the money as the staff were so experienced.
The breakfast buffet was not great, but I think the staff were finding their feet, so we didn't let it mess up our honeymoon.
The food and drink were very expensive and similar to English prices, so we found ourselves going to the local restaurants which were much more reasonable and food was fantastic.
Our stay was amazing and we were very sad to leave. If we could go back we would jump at the chance. It is truly an amazing place, the most perfect place to spend our honeymoon.
Fantastic 14 night stay of relaxation that was really needed !
My wife and I needed a truly relaxing holiday after 2 years without one.
We had a garden suite with pool. This was behind the beach villas which we liked better as all Thai beaches are public (although they have 24/7 security). Our villa pool was a fair size with jets for relaxing massage. The villa also boasted an outside shower (post pool), a small sink and fridge freezer for outside. We also had a day bed located under the villa itself.
The room was fantastic and well serviced by the staff. Usual turn down service with in villa coffee maker. There was also complimentary, whisky, vodka and gin !! Every night the turn down service would leave a small dessert gift and a note explaining what it was.
We stayed 14 nights and the food was excellent. There was a mixture of Thai and European dishes. Two nights a week there was a beach barbeque or alternative menu with live music from a couple of guys with guitars. As with most of Far East countries the staff couldn't do enough for you once you had both got over the language barrier!
We also used the Spa for a massage. The Spa is set amongst rocks with large stepping stones across water with decking and wooden stairs to the treatment rooms on the hillside. It was truly amazing.
The beach was very long and sandy. The water was shallow for a fair distance and gradual so there are no surprises for those that are uncomfortable in the water.
Unfortunately, there were two bad points and neither are the hotels fault.
1. Over the two weeks a bar further down the beach turned into a club on two separate nights and the music didn't finish until 0530. Depending where your villa is this may not be a problem or if you can get to sleep before 2230!
2. We departed the island at 0545 for our flight connection by speed boat. It is my own fault as I didn't keep my eye on the luggage all the time on the boat as it was only a few feet away but 500THB was stolen from a rucksack. Fortunately, only a small amount (£10GBP) but a little annoying. The boat was crewed by 3 on the 'Lubly Jubbly' ( as in Del Boy). I will let the hotel know but I wouldn't this to happen to anyone else.
Overall, hotels are generally the same. However, I think a hotel that puts the special touches such as Thai sweets at night, fruit kebabs served to you on the beach, sandals for the beach, and a prepared and boxed breakfast for an early departure that are all complimentary really make one hotel stand out far and above the rest.
Thank you Rasa Nan Da.
Relaxing beach front resort - sad to leave
My wife and I were booked for 9 nights and extended for 3 more after we arrived as we absolutely loved the place. Initially we had a garden suite with a terrace pool that had a partial sea view but we changed the room to an ocean view suite with terrace pool, which is worth the extra cost as to wake up with the sun rising and looking out over the sea is wonderful.
Suites 3 & 4 seems to have the clearest ocean view.
The resort is very clean and the breakfast is a la cart with dishes ranging from english breakfasts throught to asian style plus fresh baked muffins and bread. The western and asian food on the menu is excellent although a little expensive for Thailand but not expensive compared to Europe, drinks are expensive though at 180baht plus 10% plus 7% for a bottle of beer when the bars on the beach charge around 90baht inclusive. The restaurant staff could be better but what they lack in effiicency they make up for with their friendliness. It is a new resort and I'm sure given time they will get better, but remember relax you are on holiday.
If you are looking for a relaxing romantic holiday resort then this is the place to stay.
great food, risotto was amazing. staff very quick to answer calls (never made it to 2 rings!)
service was great and the pool villa we stayed in was immaculate.
