Re: what are they like

im not sure about the boats i havent been there but they have small ferrys and then normal speed boats although i wouldnt recomend what my hubby has done and managed to talk the driver of a long tail to bring him and a group back at 5 in the morning. he said it was very choppy and they all got very wet. he did get the odd dirty look on the way from very scared females... was his plan to go by long tail.

Travel Tips for Ko Phangan

Hot sun and a lot of water

by Glorija

While exploring the island you must not forget to dring a lot of water and since the sun is very hot be aware that sunburns are common problems tourists are having ...
I was aware of that and had no problems about it. I was enyoing in food, water, nature and beaches ...

Family Pet???

by LakeFever

I have no idea why the Thais feel that cagging up wild animals so they can look at them is ok.
For 10 days these birds sat just where you see them....the cage was 2 meters by 2 meters......we saw a couple other properties with cagged eagles........of course, monkeys on leashes is old hat in Thailand.

NOTE: this was owned by the Madam who ran Starlite Bunglows.....maybe having birds tied up made her feel superior!

The Fishing village of Chaloaklam

by austarman

This is only one of two beaches on Koh Phangan that faces north, but the beaches here and the resorts are as beautiful as any on the island.
It is about an hour, to slowly ride out here from Thongsala, and the journey out to Chaloaklam is just as scenic as the location.
There are a few resorts here as well as shops and if you just want to get somewhere out of the way and relax, then this is a great place to do that.
The beach here is not very wide and you do have to beware of falling coconuts if you lay down and rest on it.
I was here about 12pm one day and I saw no-one for 30 minutes except a couple of Thai's fixing thier fishing boats and a couple of tourists off in the distance.
All I could hear were the waves lapping at the shore.
The huts at Chaloklum bay resort are all amongst the coconut trees and are in the most tranquil setting possible.
At the harbour itself you may see lots of fishing boats coming and going and ladies preparing dried squid.

Get to know the locals they are quite "colorful"

by beaniezotzim about Game Bar

A lot of the locals came to this bar. It was fun to hang out with them and get to know them. I think this particular local was trying to get to "Know" my husband :) heh heh.

It always makes for a fun experience if you try and get to know the locals a little bit.

Simple beachfront dining

by Jez79 about Nice Beach Bungalows

The restaurant at the Nice Beach Bungalows has a good selection of meals at reasonable prices. You can get some western food, but some of the highlights are the local Thai dishes. Whether it's soups, stir fry's, curries or barbecued seafood, the food is always delicious. Set on the beachfront on Ao Thong Nai Pan Yai, Nice Beach is an open air restaurant, with great atmosphere. The music loops every few hours, so you can time when to avoid bad songs, but aside from that it's a great little place to eat. The staff speak basic english, but trying a little Thai can go a long way. The yellow curry and Pad Pak Na Man Hoy (stir fry veges with oyster sauce) were highlights. Also the barbecued fish with garlic and pepper.
