Salad Beach - remote and peaceful
by Tara2001 about Salad Beach resort
The service here was good and our room was beautiful, as was the whole resort. The swimming pool was lovely, but it was difficult to get a sunbed by it most days. The resort is right on the beach and during high tide the sea was great for swimming. At low tide you may have a bit of a walk. Our room was very nice, we had air conditioning and a balcony and it was well worth the money. The hotel restaurant was very reasonably priced, the food was good and it is located on the beach, so the views are lovely.
Ko Phangan's best resort
by bobinalong about Salad Beach Resort
Stayed there in 2003/4 - apparently it had only just been completed for that season - its a different class to a lot of the oter bungalow complexes on the island.
Booked on the internet as we were concerned how busy it would be over new year - chose this one by chance as was one of the last ones with availablity - we struck really lucky.
Friends stayed in haad rin - they payed less, but the bungalows were the pits. Salad beach are all luxury stone built, most sea view or on the beach, wet-room style bathrooms are great...
Don't be put off by being away from the main centers - they are short bike or taxi ride away and its worth it for the peace and tranquility after a big night out! Pool, great restaurant (and seafood bbq most nights) rooms have tv (though why you would spend your holiday watching it is anyone's guess!) + safe.
Great staff.
Ko Phangan - Go North!
by bobinalong
Went there in 2003/4 for New Years Full Moon Party and had a great time, but would highly recommend the northern beaches/resorts for anyone looking to get away from the intensity of haad rin.
Salad Beach Resort is particular - great resort - you get fantastic rooms and a great staff...
Overall, Its a great island, as is koh tao its smaller neighbour. The diving Is the best bit about it, and I'm going back this new year too!
This is Ko Nang Yuan - a nature reserve just off Ko Tao - well worth a visit for the day just to see it - but not much to do except sunbath and snorkle..!

Hi Barry,
we stayed at the Salad Beach Resort at Haad Salad, so I can tell you a bit about the beach. It is maybe 500m long, not very wide (a few metres only), and not really the best for swimming, except maybe for little children, as the water is extremely flat there; the many small broken shells in the sand are a bit disturbing, as they hurt when you walk bare footed and there are also a lot of stones and pebbles in the water. There is a picture in one of my travelogues on Ko Pha-Ngan:

There are maybe 3 or 4 smaller restaurants there and we were very pleased with the 2 we visited. Besides these there are 2 bigger restaurants, one belonging to the Salad Beach Resort and an open air fish and barbecue restaurant next to the resort. We had an excellent dinner at the latter. There are no discos or something that Thai people would call a "bar", at least there were not in April last.
There are several bungalow compounds there, one of them obviously is your Asie Bungalows, but as I do not know which one it is I cannot say how it looks like, although I certainly passed it by several times.

I was just there last week and think i can recall the bungalow you are looking for. Fisrt of all, how much do you want to spend??? I stayed at the Salad beach resort and loved it. It is brand new. The papaya next door is also really nice. Both of these you can stay for about 1500 baht. As for restaurants and bars, you are very limited. There is a Reggie bar there.
This was one of my favourite places in Thailand and had one of the cleanest beaches. It is a bit shallow thought.... Just walk out farther to swim
Where to stay?
by Anjulis
I have finally decided to go to Ko Phangan on 25-30 of January. Now the question is where to stay.
I want absolutely the best beach for swimming, with perfect sand and perfect atmosphere. I don't want FMP.
I narrowed it down to three choices:
1. Many people recommend Salad Beach Resort cons: someone said that it is too shallow there to swim. Is it true? They have rooms for 2500 baht/day
2. Ao Thong Nai Pan
cons: is it too remote? someone said it is good for surfing. I don't want waves. Are there really big waves?
3. Had Yao - could not find many comments on it. anything?
What place should I pick?
I will be coming from Ko Samui. May be go to Ko Tao for one day. Should this affect the decision somehow?
Salat Beach

Writing from Salat Beach in Ko Phangan. IMHO, it is the best beach on an island - good swimming, no waves, not many people. Plenty of good bungalows at 250-600 baht.
Do NOT stay ant Salad Beach Resort!!! They charge 2000+ a day, have exactly the same as next door bungalows 10 times cheaper, demand money up front and have attitude "don't like it, don't stay here but we will keep the deposit". People are running away from them fast.

I also was far from being pleased with the Salad Beach Resort, see my travelogue http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/tt/4be83/#TL
I know, though, that at least one other VT-member was rather happy with the hotel.
As far as the beach is concerned, you have probably not seen all on the island. There are several that are better than Haad Salad, to my mind, just to mention Aow Maehaad (north west coast) or Haad Thong Naay Paan (north east coast).

Cheers for this.
Please make sure you stick these in the hotel and accom tips,
then print and fax them a copy.
One way to change things....

I have been to Maehaad, it is the same sea and sand as Salad Beach but less cozier, IMHO.
I didn't go to the north-east but locals told me that waves there were pretty big. I guess if someone wanted to surf it would be better.
