Ko Phangan Meditation Retreat
by nepalgoods
Try a meditation retreat! I did it out of curiosity. When I heard about this temple on Ko Phangan, I went there and it was great!
Never ever thought that I could stand 10 days without talking to anybody! My friends still don't believe it! But I did it again in south of Germany in 1997.
This picture shows the meditation hall. I am sitting in the back, left side!
Take your sandals and shoes off.

Its easy, when approaching a private establishment - restaurant, store, bar or home, be sure to leave your shoes outside the door. Sometimes this isint required but many times...on the islands for sure, be sure to leave your shoes outside. Obviously local customs prevail....its nice too....thais are clean...little sand inside.
Game Bar in Tong Nai Pan
by LakeFever
Walking along the main road - about 200 yards from the beach - youll come across shops, a couple coffee houses, one or two massage places and Game Bar....look around and youll see it for sure...shoes off outside and real chill on the inside...hammock and sitting areas..both on the floor and on big couches....huge sandwiches are the specialty including tuna melts and ham/cheese...the bread made the sandwich for sure...not cheap though $140 baht ea. Beers, reg price..$60-80 baht and they had some other interesting items off the menu...including special chocolate chip cookies...special as in happy.....all that sort of stuff there.
At night the music is turned up and so is the social...the one night we went there it was pretty packed....pretty quiet during the day, worth going for lunch and a smoke.

Catamaran to the island
by LakeFever
There are plenty of options to get to KPG from Samui.....dont think youll be on Samui and there is only one boat per day from one pier....thats simply not the case....allot of people take the large barge from Big Budha Beach...It runs twice a day (9am and 1pm?? check that)....cost is 100 baht, about 1.5 hrs........we took that route one yr....it was just fine and we met tons of people..... In this photo we were going from a different area on Samui and inquired about transportation...we could go to the big budha OR take a catamaran from another beach. The hotel drove a group of us over and the trip on the Catamaran was about 45mins.....I think the cost was $300 baht ea. Moral of the story...there are planty of options....every beach/pier/etc on the north end of the island will have daily transportation and options ranging from a small speed boat to a large barge. Note: be specific about the pier you want to arrive at....some go to Tong Sala others to Haad Rin.... Tong Sala to Haad Rin, another 100 Baht cab ride....everything has to be factored in.....if your going north on the island first....Tong Sala is your best bet for proximity.....if you have no choice but simply have to get there....jump on anything that floats and simply arrive.
