How to Get There

by danaiskra

We are planning a Bangkok Trip around August. I have always wanted to explore Thailand's beaches and I wanna take this Thailand opportunity. This might require a lengthy answer. But anybody there care to share how to get to Phi Phi from Bangkok? How much might it cost? Thanks!

I think most people get to Phi Phi via Phuket. There are some low cost airlines on the BKK:HKT route, actual costs will depend on when you fly how soon you book your ticket etc. From Phuket airport you need to get to the pier in Phuket Town where the boats leave from.

Hope this helps.

Regards

John

Was there in Nov. Got a flight on Air Asia for about$45-50 US. Flew to Phuket (about half hr flight) then taxi to the pier (30-40 min) Got a 2:30 pm ferry to Phi Phi.

Travel Tips for Ko Phi Phi Don

monkey mayhem

by willy_wonka

like wtf?! monkeys, on a beach!!! we were on our boat when we came to shore and there were monkeys hanging around! we threw some pineapple pieces that we had on board, and all the monkeys went wild for it!

i definitely didn't want to go on shore though, i kept having images of being bitten by rabid monkeys!

Swimming

The beaches on the main side of the island are quite busy. We stayed on the other side of the island. If you want to swim without walking too far, swim when the tide is highest. As it goes out you have to walk a long way to get to waist deep water.... Sitting in the outside restaurants, candlelit dinners, and great Thai food.

Militancy in paradise

As our speed boat approaced Phi Phi Don a line of 200 local long-tail boats moored end-to-end prevented access to Tonsai Beach. This was in fact a Thai picket line. The local authorities had deemed that a new pier be used for access to the island but the locals weren't happy as this would adversely affect businesses at the old pier. They had therefore organised a blockade to prevent tourist boats getting to the beach. Very French, I thought .... Next thing you know, they'll be setting light to English sheep.

Our speed boat sped around the island to another beach where we disembarked. There was a lot of shallow water though so we had a long walk from the boat to the beach.

Time to say good night to "Beck"

by hash09

We been talking for hours, and all the mosquito had fun with my blood... i got bitten by mosquito, and i was always yawning all the time... he said, you look sleepy, u better get rest... i dont want to let him go.. he such a nice person to talk too... but still i have to sleep... and we end our conversation with saying "goodnite"

In our conversation, we had fun, smile, laugh and almost to tears... i really love my journey, i got a lots of experience of life from people who have adventure life like "beck" he really a calm guy.

Parascending - Loh Dalum Bay

by Scouski

This is one of the many watersports activities available on Phi Phi, besides the scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking, long tail boats and deep sea fishing. But for me (an adrenalin junkie) and my mother (a scaredy but have a bit of a go cat) it was a perfect way to enjoy some beach fun and fantastic views. Not expensive at all, and worth every penny. All in all you are in the air for around 15 mins - which seems much longer when your up there and coming back down couldn't be simpler, as they guide you back to shore slowly and plop you in about 4ft of water. Not quite as wild as Bungee Jumping or my James Bond stunts on a jetski on Patong Beach earlier in the holiday, but about as much as my 48 year old mother could handle as she was lifted 60 metres into the air. A bikini and a water proof camera
