Bophut beach

by teenalouise

Can anyone tell me if the sea conditions are good in March and whether scuba diving is possible on or near Bophut beach?
Also, the Samui Peninsula resort looks fabulous - has anyone stayed there or got any info on this hotel? Thanks

Not sure about sea conditions then or the resort you mention, but there is a dive operator based at Bo Phut. I can't remember it's name, but it's something like Dive Friends or similar. Just try googling Dive centre Bo Phut, see what you get. I don't think the diving is actually done there though, I doubt there's much there, but most of the operators from there and Chaweng take their boats from just near Bo Phut.

There are a few dive operators located at Bophut beach but none of them offer diving around Bophut beach as far as I know. The diving and snorkelling around that area isn't any good. Most of the dive operators offer dive trips to surrounding islands like Koh Tao which is 90 minutes away by speed boat. I've have been to Samui and Koh Tao in March and the sea conditions were good.

We went for a romantic meal at the peninsular and it was absolutely fabulous!
We stayed in Central samui and got a taxi over there to eat on our last night.
If you wanted relaxation this is the place to be but it may not be right if you fancy being more central to Chaweng and its nightlife.
Def a honeymoon resort or "im in my fist throes of passion and dont need other people" hotel

Have fun!

Thanks for your replies. We're not in the first throes of passion, just a bit anti-social!! :-)

Sea conditions are fine, but most of the diving is done off the surrounding islands. plenty of dive shops on the island.

If you're staying in a 'High end" hotel, they can recommend good dive centres for you. i personally recommend "Captain Caveman' dive centre. They are linked to a lot of the big hotels.

For accommodation. Check out "Coral Bay Resort' they have a website. Fantastic place, perfect for couples.

Good Luck,

Tony

Travel Tips for Ko Samui

Regular or Super

by biggeorge

There isn't much in the way of petrol stations ,but the conveniance shops ( shacks ) normally in the middle of no-where sell petrol out of large glass jars. Regulars bright yellow and supers bright red and you get a rubber tube to syphon it into your petrol tank.

walking down the street

by pehsan about chaweng beach

there are lotz of shophouses along the walkway selling cheap and local products. you can find ATM, beach wear, thailand painting, beads, handicrafts, paper lamp, load of pubs, clubs, etc... by the way, the tut tut are very annoying, honking to bring them to ur notice when u are WALKING down the road.

SCOOTERS-Fun but they can be scary at times.

by mamasan69

We were able to purchase a manual driven scooter for 150bht per day or they also had automatics for 200bht. They are in pretty good working condition, but never came with much fuel. We always had to rush to the nearest fuel station, both times we rented the scooters.
Make sure you go over your scooter with the rental agency for damage before you leave with it. I did hear from a few people that got charged for damage that was already on the scooter, but they couldn't prove it was there before renting.
When renting one , your passport must be left with them until the scooter is returned. If scooters are not in the game plan, taxis are fairly cheap except in the early morning hours(5:00-8:00am).
***If you get caught without your helmet on it is a 500bht fine, however I never saw many people wear them, including the locals.****

Italian

by globetrotter06 about Villa Bianca

Surprisingly, there is an Italian restaurant in Bhoput. But it is rather uppriced compared to the Thai restaurants. You can also order wine or Italian sparkling water, but again be aware of the prices. I ordered pizza here, real Italian, thin and crusty.
