It depends where on the island your hotel is. My wife and I stayed in the southern end of Lamai and were charged 600 BHT total for the ride. Maybe we got ripped off but our flight arrived at 22:00 so by the time we got our baggage and were out by the taxi stand it was about 22:30 so we really had no choice since hardly any taxis were around. There was another guy who came on our minibus also going to Lamai and he was charged 400 BHT. Assuming you are staying in Chaweng it should be cheaper than that. By the way, this was just last week. Hope this helps and enjoy Samui.
Oh, we stayed in a very nice hut right on the beach with private bath, toilet, minifridge, and tv! It was wonderful, let me know if it interests you and I'll give you more info.

Eventually I will. I'm in Rome right now and this city doesn't leave me any time for anything. I love Italy!

Lamai Beach

by Pomska

Lamai Beach is Samui's second most popular beach. It's a little quieter and a little cheaper that Chaweng. Lamai has a broad selection of bungalow type accomodation, ranging from the budget end of the scale to the magnificent. Lamai is favoured by budget travellers.

Remember to drive on the left

by AMOQUE

Like everywhere in Thailand, you have to drive on the left site of the road on Koh samui.

I saw some big signs next to the road, to remind you of that.

Koh samui has excellent asphalt roads.

Small but very good

by jamiesamui about Little Boat Seafood Restaurant

The Little Boat Seafood Restaurant is a small, recently renovated(comfortably seating 40) family run business which offers a variety of meals ( Thai,Western,Seafood) The food & service are very good & very reasonably priced, also from an Aussie`s point of view, the beer is cold with the staff always ready to offer you another one. Highly recommended I really can`t narrow it down to one particular meal, everything I have had there has been very enjoyable.

The island's most prominent religious symbol

by XLH

This has got to be the most prominent Buddhist symbol on the island. It is said that many Asians come to the Big Buddha to pray to make merit, but what we saw there were tons more tourists taking pictures of this image.
Also, the beach around the area, i found to be quite clear and was wishing that i could just change into swimming gear and jump in.
One thing i'd recommend is to have a meal/drink at least, on one of the little cafes on Bophut Beach beside the Big Buddha. One of the cafes faces the sea, and also sells handicrafts, and has such a laidback atmosphere i wished i could go there everyday. It was more peaceful and relaxing than Chaweng for sure!
