Bungalow on the beach??

by PremaLee

Hello, we are going looking for a quiet bungalow on the beach in Ko Samui. Nothing fancy....price not the issue we just want a low key beach front experience. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

If quiet is really what you want avoid Chaweng and Lamai Beaches. Focus your search on Maenam Beach.

There are some reviews here on Virtual Tourist.

Have a look at VT member junecorlett reviews of accommodation on beach at Ko Samui

check out crystal bay resort - http://www.sawadee.com/hotel/677252/ or you may check my page here http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/8a13d/16186f/3/

there only have a few banglow or guest house around the beach but its not so busy.. when i was there, i can count only a few people were at the beach area...

i was staying there for about a week, and had privacy time ever, away from crowded place yet close if i wanted to go. just took tuk tuk cost about THB100/person to lamai beach and about the same price to chaweng beach.

+1 for Maenam for peace & quiet. You have to get a songthaew into Chaweng for nightlife though.

We've stayed at Moonhut Bungalows about 5 years ago.
Go for the beachfront bungalow. Deadset awesome.
Basic accom... Hot shower & air conditioning.
I found it on www.sawadee.com. (no affiliation)

Travel Tips for Ko Samui

Taxis on the Island

by Sajt

If you are backpacker and you don't want to pay to lot for travelling, you just have to pay twice for taxi. But you have to pay anyway. The beach and the place near the harbour is not so good. If you want really enjoy the island you have to go to other beaches like I did on Lamai.

EXPLORE THE JUNGLE

by mamasan69

When you are staying in Samui or any of the other islands, a trek into the jungle is a great experience. It is an activity that not only provides great stuff to look at, but it is a very good workout at the same time.
While exploring the waterfalls on Koh Samui, I had the chance to get a good walk into the jungle in order to find it, but it was well worth it. We had to hike for about 45 minutes to the actual waterfall, but the sites along the way were amazing. The thick coconut palms are everywhere, as far as you can see in the distance. Along the way I also happened to see interesting plantlife, insects and even rock carvings.
This is an activity that a tourist to a tropical island must try. Be aware even after only walking for a couple minutes in the jungle, you will be wet, the air is very thick and humid. We happened to get to the waterfall just after it had rained and we all were drenched.
The end result was a great chance to see natural waterfalls in a tropical jungle setting, what more could you ask for? A person can do many things when here, but this somthing you have to experience to completely understand.

Typical buses in Samui

by tere1

Even if you want to go to the other end of Chaweng Beach use one of the typical buses that you will see driving around Chaweng road. They are fun and stop wherever you want to. Also very inexpensive.

Vegetarian

by meaganelizabeth about spa Samui

Amazing food! Spa Samui serves fish as well, but the vegetarian cuisine is amazing. They have raw food, as well as cooked, and meat substitutes. Breakfast is amazing, all kinds of fruit combinations. My favorite dish is papaya, goat milk and sesame seeds. THere is also a natural mango smoothie with cinnamon dressing. This is all natural, no added sugar and is like having ice cream. You eat it, not drink it.

Depressing

by bfg69

This has to be the most depressing sight on the whole of Samui.

Bengal Tigers are beautiful animals that deserve a decent life and should not be locked up in cramped concrete cages for the benefit of tourists.

Are people really that stupid to have their photograph taken with such exotic creatures?

I believed that the majority of 'zoos' for the 'delight & pleasure' of tourists was well left behind in the 20th century - I was wrong.

The place should be shut down, and the tigers sent to a proper sanctuary.

I hope that those who have had their photograph taken, make a large donation to a Tiger charity as some kind of atonement for their actions.
