Train from Penang to Koh Samui

by dianne08

Hello, I've looked at train schedules from Butterworth (Penang Malaysia) to Koh Samui, and it appears the train stops at Suret Thani at 2300 hours at night and then we need to take a ferry to Koh Samui the next morning.

Is there a hotel to stay at closer to the ferry terminal to catch the ferry to Koh Samui?

Any help you can provide will be quite welcome.
Thanks, Dianne

Best bet is to stay in Surat Thani for the night and head for ferry in the morning. Surat Thani is the dropping of point for all traveller's heading for all destinations in this are including Koh Samui, Phuket & Krabi etc... so you can easily arrange transport to the ferry in the morning which there is plenty going to Koh Samui.

There will be plenty of hotels in Surat Thani and im sure the hotel can help you find a minibus service to the ferry if not I'm sure you will find a local travel agents who can help.

Travel Tips for Ko Samui

Blue skies and beaches

by AussieLuke

this place has a good mix of activities that ensures that your time is not wasted finding out what to do or where to go. It caters for all needs within the confines of an island 20km x 20km roughly. Take time to get away by motorbike and do some exploring, get lost on your own beach. stop and go to the markets and taste the local cuisine. The smiles on peoples faces when they realise that your out to have fun too. If you show respect and compassion you will be rewarded. Try to learn the local tongue and you will recieve more smiles as well.

Go scuba diving

The Gulf of Thailand has excellent diving. Around Samui the diving is amazing, with many different exotic fish. If you don't know how to dive you can have one of the courses in the several diving schools in Samui.

Here are the links to some of them : Dive and Adventure Projects ( www.thaistyles.net), Pro Divers ( www.prodivers.nu) or Planet Scuba ( www.planet-scuba.net ).

by jamiesamui about Reggae Pub

The Reggae Pub is situated across Chaweng lake and is probably just as popular as the Green Mango. On my last two trips to the Reggae there has been a seven piece band. The music they play is mainly reggae, popular, dance with even the odd rock`n`roll tune slipped in.After the band finishes at 12.30 am there is a D.J pumping out music till 2 am. One tip don`t go if you`ve got a headache. Like the green mango if you love to dance, do yourself a favour and spend an evening or 2 there.
A friendly tip if you plan on taking a Thai person here make sure they have their ID card with them or they won`t get in. Light & cool
