Travel Tips for Ko Samui

General

by Pomska

Koh Samui is a small island and you could easily drive around it in a day. There's a motorway which goes around the island (50 km). The best way to arrive for the island is by plane. We arrived by bus and ferry and it wasn't a pleasant way of travelling. There is approximately 40 000 inhabitants in the island. Life in Samui is easy-going and relaxed.

Samui Bayview Villa and resort

by MickiSweden

I have two places I just love and always visit a lot of times when Im in Koh Samui. The first place is Samui Bayview Villa and resort. But not as a hotell, but I guess its lovely to stay here to if you can afford it. But if you dont want to stay, just go here and eat a dinner, take a coffe or a icecream and enjoy the stunning view. Dont forget to have a look at their swimmingpool.

Samui Bayview is located between Chaweng and Lamai, a bit closer to Lamai. I promise that youll love it.

P&O Cruises

by ATXtraveler

Sarah and I may be considered "old souls" when it comes to travel, because we do enjoy cruising as a easy form of overview travel. It gives you the ability to see many smaller locations that you may or may not want to invest an entire week of vacation in. Koh Samui for example was one place I preferred to spend a single day in, and move on.

We sailed to Koh Samui on P&O Cruise's Pacific Sky. The Pacific Sky is a grand old ship, which probably needs to be put out to sea and turned into an artificial reef. Shortly after our 7 day cruise, the ship ended up being stranded off the west coast of Malaysia when it's motor stopped working.

During our 7 day cruise however, there were no major problems, and I would recommend Koh Samui as a destination for cruising!

Enjoy your trip!

EDIT: Please note that P&O has since sold the Pacific Sky, so this cruise line will no longer serve Ko Samui.

Unique CaliforniThai Fushion - Don't miss it!

by JessH about THE BETELNUT Koh Samui

When in Koh Samui, the choice of restaurants is literally endless, espeically along Chaweng Beach. There is something to suite every traveller's wallet.

If you' ve tried all the fresh fruit bags, sticky rice and satay grills from streetvendors and are looking to spoil yourself, head down to the south of Chaweng Beach to the 'Betelnut'.
It is small, tucked-away in a side street (Samui is safe - don't worry too much about side street exploration!) and offers the best fusion food I have ever tasted!

Budget-wise, it is medium to expensive for Koh Samui, yet it's quite a bargain for overseas guests. You can expect high quality and generous portions.

The restaurant is run by Jeffrey, an American with a big heart, big smile (well, he's simply a big guy!) and a passion for food.
He takes his time to talk to all guests, explain the dishes and encourage them to try some of his signature dishes, which he calls 'CaliforniThai'.

Treat yourself to a dinner you'll never forget! I sure haven't! I love all the food there, but the salmon steak with basil mash is my absolute favourite!

For dessert, the 'Gone-in-60-seconds' chocolate brownie is to die for!

Yoga at Beach side

by Vishuddha

*** In the end of 2008, The Yoga Thailand has moved to the south part of Ko Samui and kept offerring nicer yoga studio and so on. Pls check their website!! ***

If you do Ashtanga yoga regularly or are interested in it, it's worth to visit and have the practice.
Yoga Thailand provides you the mysore style of Ashtanga class from 7:30 in the morning, and also other classes. Here's their web page. http://www.yoga-thailand.com/ Check it out!!
The studio is facing to the nice beach, almost it's like the private beach. You can definitely consentrate a bit more on your Ashutanga practice. The sound of waves leads your Victorian breathing and peaceful mind. :) My favorite part is jumping into the beach right after the practice. It may be not good to let your body cool down after the practice, though....
Also the studio provides you the accomodation, the harb steaming bath, the massage treatments, the delicious vegetarian foods and the retreat programs.
One opinion. Do not expect the very luxury and holistic resort. Yoga Thailand has the very simple atmosphere and provide you with the minimum equipment. It's up to you how much you can enjoy there. Listen to your body and mind, and dedicate your time for those. Then you will find luxuary in your mind. Om.
