Sep-Oct in Samui
by Josip6882
We are planning our honeymoon in Ko Samui, but because the wedding is in September, can only go in Sep-Oct. What would be the weather like and what beach would you recommend.
Thanks for help

You are going at a good time where rainy season is almost over and you will have nice warm weather. Ko Samui is a favorite of mine, and Chaweng Beach is the most popular.

Due to extreme climatic changes the World is experiencing at the moment, trying to predict the weather can be difficult because of local, on the day variations.
Most places now are seeing weather conditions well outside the norm.
The information below should be used as a guide only.

Enjoy your holiday.

I can only vouch for Lamai beach since my wife and I spent one week on a beach hut there last year. Absolutely loved it and highly recommend it. We stayed on the southern end of Lamai and it was very calm and peaceful (both the water and atmosphere).
Chaweng is the most popular beach but also the most crowded/touristy.

Lamai is less busy than Chawang but both have good beaches.
Chawang is the place for partying.

For a honeymoon, I would suggest you stay anywhere else except the main beach Chaweng which is always busy, very loud etc. Tuk tuks rides are cheap and I would suggest that you stay at a quieter more secluded beach and make trips to Chaweng if you want to party up a storm.
Travel Tips for Ko Samui
Be Prepared
by JoJo_of_the_west
I cannot give enough praise to the Lonely Planet guide series. It was indispensable on this trip. A simple phrase book is good as well. As always, an attempt to communicate (e.g., please, thank-you, yes, no, hello, goodbuy, etc.) is appreciated when you are out of your normal element. I would purchase the guide book before you depart from home then get the phrase book after you arrive at BKK - Asia Books is a good source for english language publications. Also, regardless of the time of year that you travel to Ko Samui, I would highly recommend a wind breaker or some rain gear. You may not need it but the extra weight is not a factor.
Shaquille O'Neal plays for Thailand!

In the US, many years have passed where Shaq has been the most dominate player in the NBA. His bull style of play could probably only be stopped by an elephant. Well... it now appears the Western Conference has began a training regimen for one of the newest NBA stars.
This elephant can dunk as well as dribble (ok, so it was water).
Look at those moves!!!!
Something for everybody
by jamiesamui about Soi Green Mango
The Green Mango has become so popular that they have named a whole entertainment area after it. "soi"( meaning side streets, lanes or alleys). These soi`s lead straight into the green mango. However you can have a great night without even making it as far as the green mango. There are dance bars, girlie bars, themed bars, even a thai karoake bar(hey they were enjoying themselves, can`t say I was singing along). There are also food stalls, small noodle bars, shopping, really a bit of everything. same as most anything light & cool
If you can't take Thai food everyday.

First of all, the restaurant is well decorated. It's part of the hotel, so it can't be bad. Actually, this is one the best Italian restaurant on the island. During the whole time we were there, customers were keep coming even as late as 9:30pm and raining. This is one of the restaurant recommended in many travel guide books.
The food was excellent, and there were enough choices on the menu for us to choose. Well, Thailand is never short of fresh ingredients.
Although it was located on the road side, we didn't feel disturbed by the traffic. Except every now and then, we saw a pickup truck running up and down the street promoting the Thai boxing game of the night with loud speakers. What was more annoying were kids and babies crying around us. Something you can't avoid in a resort hotel.
I certainly would recommend the restaurant.
Lomprayah (Snorkelling and Kayaking!)

We had decided that we had been very good with our money so far and hadn't taken extravagent trips anywhere so Samui was the place to do it! We had been given early Christmas/ Birthday money and decided to spend it on a day tour of the Angthong National Marine Park. We looked around at different companies who offered day trips and checked prices and decided to go with Lomprayah as we had had only good experiences with them so far. Below is the itineary:
0700: Air-con mini van pick up from your hotel to Lomprayah Pier. Light meal will be served for breakfast at the pier. (This consisted of two croissants and tea or coffee each)
0815: Board to our new modern speedboat. The most comfortable way to get there within 45mins.
0900: Arrive Koh Vaw (or Koh Samsao or Koh Thiplao depending on weather condition) for visit and ready for your underwater explorer and then move onto the "Talay nai" or The Emerald Lake for you to enjoy the view point and fun activities.
1200: Lunch will be served at Koh Wao Ta Lap" Restaurant and from now you can enjoy the viewpoint and kayaks are already there for you to begin real fun with your buddy.
1500: Get ready to board back to Koh Samui and say good-bye to the nature. Return to Koh Samui.
1600: Looking for some souvenir and transfer back to your hotel. (As you board the boat in the morning they take a photo of you. When you come back, they have mounted it onto a saucer. A tacky souvenir, but I bought it anyway!!!)
Programme includes full insurance coverage, hotel transfers, admission fee, english speaking guide, life jackets and snorkel set, lunch buffet and soft drinks on board.
We had a fantastic day and it was well worth the money and gave us something different to do other than just sit on the beach again. The fish we saw when snokelling were out of this world, so colourful and calm. Please try out this trip!
