Travel Tips for Ko Samui

Mosquito repellant

by Chase&Rich

I'm planning on using an oil based mosquito repellent with lemon eucalyptus (not the usual eucalyptus oil) and lemon grass oil. it smells wonderful and was quite effective in Thailand.

Also, I have heard/read that Angosturo bitters was what was originally used to help the body combat the little buggers. (Malaria, etc) It tastes great added to your bloody maria cocktail! Also olive leaf extract and black walnut hull extract can help prevent the bad guys from having a protective coating around them, rendering them harmless. I understand that the side effects from the usual recommendations are as bad as what they are trying to prevent...so yuck. And I figure eating lots of garlic can only help, and tastes delicious!

Butterfly Garden

by Princess_Emily about Butterfly Garden

I'm not a real big fan of honey but this, made by the bee's at the Butterfly Garden, golden necture has converted me. We purchased a small glass during our visit to the Garden but first opened and sampled the honey when we arrived back home. MM MM good, a real taste treat for the taste buds, wish I had bought more than just this one glass. Glass Jars of Honey. €0.50 per glass.

Rent a Car

Rent a Car

Renting a four wheel vehicle is possibly the best way to look around the beautiful island of Samui. The jeep I rented in the photograph allowed me to access roads that a standard car could not negotiate

Street Food

by JappaJukebox about All over Koh Samui

This tip links to my previous tip on street food. The same woman that prepared our calamari received an order for Som Tam from across the street. Som Tam is a fresh green papaya and chili salad. The vendor prepared the salad within minutes with the familiar pok pok of her wooden morter and pestle and walked of with her portable restaurant looking for the next customer. You will see these vendors all over and especially on the beaches with two baskets attached to a pole over their shoulders. The one basket contains a cooler box with all the fresh ingredients and the other usually a charcoal broiler to cook the food. Ignore people who advise you not to eat street food for being unhygienic. If you are prepared to eat a burger that is prepared in a backroom where you cannot even see the chef, you might as well eat the street food that is prepared right before you. What doesn’t kill you will make you stronger
