Blue Lagoon hotel: Most enjoyable!

Stayed in the garden room, which is in a lovely quiet position with exotic gardens, but without sea views.Thatched room with large terrace.Breakfast was taken in the restaurant which overlooks the sea.

Large swimming pool with nice, clean sandy beach.Well kept gardens.

Moby Dick Guesthouse: Bring air plugs people!

This guesthouse is located right in the very heart of all the busiest nightclubs in Chaweng. It is also upstairs from an Irish Pub. The room is not bad. It has AC, hot water and television. There is a security box in the small lobby area, (but no safe in the room). Great budget value. Now comes the negative part. Wow, is the noise LOUD. The thumping of the bass almost literally viberates the room. If you want to sleep, you absolutley must have ear plugs. No question. I am a middle aged man, so I left after one night, reguardless of the bargain rates.
Now, to be fair, for a younger person who figures on partying all night and sleeping all day, this place is perfect.

Shasa Resort and Residences: Super Hidden Gem

I’ve been travelling to Thailand for years now, and I must say that Ko Samui is my favorite place in this wonderful country to come and just relax and do nothing. In fact, I have been to Ko Samui at least 10 times now, but my last visit to the island was by far the best. The reason? Because I discovered the Shasa Resort that’s why!
Quite simply, the Shasa resort is the best I have found on the island. It’s the nicest, cleanest, most comfortable, and what’s more it’s probably the friendliest too! No word of a lie, the staff went all out to make sure me and my family had everything we could possibly need, the service was exceptional. The hospitality here is quite simply incredible when compared to other resorts. For once, it actually felt as if the staff didn’t see this as just being their job. It seemed as if they really cared that we enjoyed our holiday – and even more so when they discovered I could speak a bit of Thai language!

Apart from the great staff, the whole setting and feel of the place was just great. The views and the beach are amazingly beautiful, and they offer tons of privacy. As for the room itself, this was superb! I don’t know what to say, but at that price I doubt you’ll be able to find a more luxurious place to stay anywhere on the island. The first thing I noticed about the room when we walked in the door was the incredible view we had of the beach. All of the rooms at Shasa have great ocean views, so it’s not like you need to worry about booking one, whichever you get will surely be great.
The room was nicely decorated, and the staff were very thoughtful to put some candles and flower in there for us. I also really loved the bathroom. I love nothing better than just relaxing in the tub, and this was almost the size of a small swimming pool!
I should also point out there was a couple of bottles of wine in the fridge, perfect for a connoisseur like me who appreciates a drink in the evening.

If you appreciate good food, then you’ll appreciate the great tasting dishes they have at the restaurants. I actually forget the name of it now, but the menu was simply awesome – all your favorite Thai foods, plus a huge selection of international foods. The chef was great as well, very happy to oblige you if you had any special requests, such as less spicy than usual, or if you wanted him to add a little extra ingredient he would be more than happy to do so. Be sure to try the omelets for breakfast if you can, I thought they were outstanding!

While I’m not so keen on being pampered, I should add that my wife thought the spa here was great. She had a massage every single day, and she said she felt all the better for it. And she’s pretty hot on her spas so when she says a service is good, I’ll take her word for it.

Shasa Resort was fantastic. For the price of the rooms, I think it would be very hard to find a more comfortable and more relaxing resort as Shasa. As for us, I don’t think we’ll bother trying to find somewhere else. Next time we return to Ko Samui we’ll certainly be staying at Shasa again.

The view was sensational!

Villa Vivi Samui: Villa for rent.

I found this villa to rent on the Homelidays.com site as I wanted something for us (staying 8 weeks away from the European winter) plus various friends and children were coming out for different periods. It was a great find from the very pleasant owners to the feller (Lemon - yes, yes) who looked after the house, to Pat, the lad that did the garden and came round a couple of times to do us a BBQ. The main house has 2 bedrooms, separate WC and shower rooms, useful sized living room, an open kitchen and the beautiful "Sala Thai", the 80 sq. metred covered terrace overlooking the sea where breakfast was taken every day, plus the obligatory aperitif in the evening. Plus there is a mezzanine floor that can sleep another couple of people. In the garden there is another completely self-contained house with large bedroom, WC and shower rooms. Plenty of other terraces around to be alone and read or there is the very useful jacuzzi. Not very big but sufficient for a bit of fun for the kids and also after a dusty trek in the mountains or temple visiting for a refreshing cool down.

The villa doesn't come cheap but for a long stay as we had the owners were more than willing to negociate. Price varies between 450 euros and 550 euros depending on chosen period. Another point to consider is the need for a vehicle, either car or scooter. The owners can organise this or you can do it yourself locally.

As I do not want this tip to sound like an advert or publicity I am not putting the price I negociated, nor the detais of the owners, but am willing to convey these to anyone that may be interested, just send me a mail at VT.

I forgot to add that a pick-up/drop-off at the airport or ferry terminal is included in the price.

The lovely sea views every morning and breakfast on the terrace with a cool breeze blowing. I must also add the excellent relationship we developed with the owners, a lovely couple from near Paris that helped to make our stay the great 8 weeks it became.

Free House Bungalow: Best kept secret!

The accomodation is all private bungalows. They have 4 a/c bungalows and the others are fans. They are all just a couple minutes from the restaurant/bar and beach. You even check in right at the bar, a beer in seconds. The rooms are nice. There is no noise, only from the a/c. But try to sleep without a/c, I wouldn't. The staff is super super nice and the service is perfect!

Everything you need is right there. Great food and great beach. It's hard to leave the place. There are other places right next door, walking along the beach. We didn't find anything as nice as ours though. And alot (alot!) of people from nearby hotels/bungalows would eat at our restaurant. One couple came evry day, we were there 6 nights.

We didn't eat anywhere else for all our meals except 2 times. so that's 16 out of 18 meals. Food is the best on the beach some say.

The shrimp tempura (best fried shrimp I've EVER had), the shrimp cocktail, any stir fry, the chicken rice soup for breakast (best I've ever had). Really great food and we are very picky gourmet eaters.

If you stay here say hi to Rung for me, she works at the bar/restaurant and was so concerned for me. Just a real sweetie. Hi from Michelle.

Health Oasis Resort: Away From Everything

The Health Resort is an extreamly laidback place. If you look at a Ko Samui map you will see that this place is way down the end of Maenam beach. This place is really geared for health with yoga classes, detox programs and a vegetarian restaurant. We were not really into that this time around ,so we just laze around the beach and pool. There are 36 bungalows in all .Ours was the biggest and most expensive at 4000 baht a night but there are cheaper ones around 600 baht and most of them are no less than 50 meters from the beach.I didn't notice many people here and the beach and pool were often deserted.
The resort is a fair way from Chaweng so you really need a bike or wheels .Another option is to get a 'songtheaw' taxis that you can get at the main road .
Great place if your want to get away from it all..

Long deserted beach.Bungalow close to the beach, clean, healthy food, quiet place.

First House Hotel: New & Nice

Extra Tip: If you take a Ferry to (Koh Samui) be-aware of the CAB Drivers who are a rip-off. The red pickup charges 100 bucks per person to the first house hotel. Hotel is new so dont be surprised if the cab driver drops you at the "first banglow" hotel or "first residence" all these hotels belong to same family I was told. first house hotel is new property and rooms are neatly setup. Good Value for money. Breakfast is good (Above avg American Breakfast). This hotel is located right at the beach from the hotel lobby grab a beach towel and take a 2 minute walk to the beach chairs (which are hotel property and provided free of charge) unlike phuket where you pay for sitting on the beach chairs. Bike rentals are available right from the hotel lobby. Internet is available (at extra charge). Apart from the beach you can hangout on the bike exploring the Island on the bike which is great fun. Explore attractions on your own.

- Nice Location
- Pool is ok
- Clean Room
- New Hotel

Lucky Mother Bungalow: Lucky Mother Bungalow

After staying in Your Place Resort for the first night I moved to Lucky Mother Bungalow for 700bt a night with fan which is also situated at Chaweng Beach. The room that we’ve got is much nicer and also nearer to the town area. The beach in front of this place is much better that the earlier place.
