Lovely tropical gardens and bungalows

I picked this place from the internet and wasnt disappointed even though I'd read some good and bad reports of this place. Firstly, we stayed in the superior bungalows which are detatched and are lovely, you have tiled floor, comfortable bed with tasteful furnishings, bathroom and our own patio/verandah with table and chairs. The standard bungalows looked good too, the main difference being that they were attatched to each other. The pool at this hotel is small and there is a small area for pool lounges but you have to pick which side u will sit on if you want to get the sun as there are lots of trees that create shade. There is also pool lounges to use on the beach in front of the pool which is good. The breakfasts were good, especially if u get your eggs cooked how you like them,. not a big variety buffet but we found it very acceptable for the price.Montien House is an animal friendly hotel so they dont poison the street dogs and cats(our main reason for staying there) So we made friends with a local dog and cats and bought food for them every day and we didnt get into any trouble when at breakfast time, our dog came with us for a piece of bacon each morning as a treat.
Please if you stay here, put a donation in the box at the reception for the Koh Samui Animal Shelter which is run by a German lady. The only shelter on the island and they provide free treatment for all animals.
The position of this hotel is great, just a walk out of the lane and you are in amongst the shops of Chaweng Beach,,,,,,,When its gets dark, walk along the beach and visit the many resturants and bars that are set up on the sand nightly.
We would definatly stay here again, we preferred it to the bigger resort places, the staff are friendly, great location and great price.

Unique Quality: Great location on Chaweng shopping strip and beach.

Montien House

After a ride in the back of a pick up from the airport ,we ended up at the Montien. Little bungalows with no aircon ,only Apocalypse Now style ceiling fans and a little path leading down to the resteraunt and the beach.

Unique Quality: Our neighbours , one side neon clad Germans who would say " good morning " in unison as each one walked past , other side another German who kept bringing rent boys back to his room but had to ask us how to open the door to his room.

Montien House

The rooms are laid out bungalow style on 2 levels facing each other with a walkway down the middle to the beach and the restaurant / reception at teh front. Our room was very nice, tiled floors, double bed, dressing table air-con and fridge. We paid 1000 Baht for the room and this also included breakfast.

Chaweng Beach Delight

One of the BEST places I have stayed. Why? My own bungalow with a clean room, mini fridge, king size bed, deck with furniture AND 15 seconds to the beach. Every morning included an American style breakfast that would fill you up until supper and you could get Thai massage right on the beach. SWEET!

Unique Quality: A 30 second walk to the beach, air conditioning, great little pub, cheap and good food, close to everything you need.

Montien House vs Weekender Resort

by cardiffcity

Has anyone stayed at the Montien House or Weekender Resort - What did they think of the accommodation and which is best for a beach bungalow not too far from the bars and restaurants

Re: Montien House vs Weekender Resort

We were in Weekender Resort before 4 years. It was very nice, direct on the beach Lamai. This hotel has 2floor hotel building and also beach bungalows. The beach is very nice, much better then Chaweng beach. The island is very small and transport isn´t problem. Near the Weekender resort are many restaurants and bars, and not so much discos.
Have a nice time in Thailand.
